Hello does anyone crash and burn around 2 to 5pm? I'm interested to see how many of us with thyroid in particular hashimotos has this problem. I've spoken to my endo he thinks perhaps low sugar but I don't agree, I would like to take this issue back to him but I'd like more examples
Afternoon fatigue : Hello does anyone crash and... - Thyroid UK
Afternoon fatigue
I certainly do. The one caveat I'd mention is that I've just found out I have high cortisol through the day; this varies most from the 'normal' range in mid-afernoon, so I don't know what part, if any, that has in my afternoon slump.
I don't believe I have Hash but I do have that dip and as I take my 20mcg t3 at 7.30 don't know if another 20mcg would help me... I'm so sick of the flagging in the afternoon:((
Definitely feel awful at this time. I have to say that has much improved in the last few weeks as have started taking NatureThroid instead of Levo.
I do and have for years. I try and structure my life around the need to sleep at any time between 14.00 and 16.00. Eating regular, well-balanced meals helps a bit - a relatively recent phenomenon for me as skipping meals was a bad habit. I dread an afternoon meeting ( will nod off) or class that goes on all afternoon ( dead on my feet.)
There are days I struggle to get to 1400 before 'hitting the wall' so frustrating. Also go freezing cold. As it passes I become very warm.
Linda.... oh I dont have Hashimoto's
I used to really struggle with this. I would pretty much grind to a halt. Changing from T4 to T3 helped me, although it still happens occasionally, so it might be worth checking your FT3 levels if they've not been tested already.
I also seem to have a problem when it gets damp but the docs seem to be think I'm making it up.
I struggle from about 4 to 8 pm. Could just lay down and got to sleep biput never do as am at work. My sleep when I do go to bed about 11pm is awful. I average 6 hours a night. 😩. I'm on 125mg lethrothyroxine
Here is an interesting link based on Traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis. It explains how the bodies organs function and vary during different times of the day and when slumps can occur (aside from illness or thyroid related issues). organicolivia.com/2014/10/3...
I do get the afternoon slump if I'm not occupied between 4pm and 5pm. If I resist it I then have a surge of energy and can often be found awake up until 2am. I get by on 6.5-7.5hrs sleep a day. I don't think I need much sleep. The more I do, the more energy I have. I fall victim to the afternoon cat nap when I am at a loose end. No issues with sleep and can fall asleep at any time of day providing I am close to bed.
Certain foods e.g. a jacket potato are dreadful for me - they make me very tired and I don't eat before 11am otherwise my appetite goes into overdrive and I'm thinking 'what shall I eat next?'
