Orlistat : hi has anyone took orlistat while on... - Thyroid UK
Orlistat
The latest research indicates we need good fats for our health and to lose weight. Check out Mark Hyman - he has on-line summits you can watch and listen - about good fats. he also has a Newsletter - so I would signs up for one ....

We need good fats for our brains too ! So why would you block fat ?
well because I've put on 2stone in 4weeks with healthy eating and exercise in agony with my legs and have 3children to look after plus I walk 4miles a day...so this is my last resort have not ask for them till my bloods and antibodies and my ft3 results come back..then I will take it from there
But eating fat doesn't make you fat. In fact, those that eat the most fat lose the most weight.
We discussed all this in your other thread. You are not putting on weight because of what you eat, and it probably isn't even fat. You are putting on weight because you have a thyroid condition. And if you block fat, you will make the condition worse.
I had never heard of orlistat but on reading about it, I do wonder why your GP/Endo didn't trial you with a dose of T3 added to your T4. Many gain weight when undiagnosed or on a low dose of T4.
T3 raises our metabolism quicker than T4 which has to be converted to T3.

hi I don't know if he's going to test me for it but as I just requested it so will I find out next week.. Is t3 tested when you have your thyroid checked anyhow?
Ideally they should check T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3 - even if occasionally particularly if patient complains. It is rare that they do so.
The Association apparently don't think it vital to test these hormones and insist in the TSH alone is the priority. They don't see the point in testing the two main hormones our bodies lack, i.e. T4 and T3. No wonder there are very unwell people in this country and many of our members have had to pay for their own blood tests as well as purchasing thyroid hormones which improve their health. Sometimes it takes a while to find the most suitable.
Some doctors do only the TSH - nothing else. Most will do TSH and T4. They have been instructed (as far as I know) that those two are sufficient when we, the patients, know that T3 is the most important as our receptor cells need it in order that we can function properly, i.e. heart, brain, organs and everything in our bodies in fact. This excerpt is from Thyroiduk.org.uk:
"We at Thyroid UK believe that you need to know your Free T3 level too because this will often show low if you are not converting, and high if you have blocked receptor cells. Even if you are converting, the body needs the extra T3 that a normal thyroid produces. There has been some research to show that people feel better on a mixture of Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3)."

That's why we have to read and learn and I think many on the forum have resorted to self-medicating and are doing fine whereas they weren't on levo.
am I getting this right if doctor puts me on t3 do I take that with my t4 or go of t4 and go on to t3 on its own?
my level is at 11.1 That was 6weeks ago but I will see on Monday if their going to check it.. Can doctors give you it on prescription t3..also can you come of levo and just take the t3?
