stopthethyroidmadness.com/l... HOW TO READ YOUR LAB RESULTS AND OTHER LAB TEST AND WHAT THEY MEAN FROM B12 TO FT3 HIGH OR LOW ETC.....

in reply to jacrjacr

jacrjacr,

I like the STTM sites as they explain things and reference everything very clearly. I agree they are pro NDT but much of their advice (sups, iron,etc..) applies to any replacement thyroid hormones we are medicating.

I also have both books that I regularly dip and in and out of .. (along with many others.! ) .

Thank you for posting. I am sure others will find these sites very informative too.

thank you flower..i agree. None of us are identical and we are all intelligent enough to figure out what meets our needs but many of us are still searching for answers or ideas they will never hear from a dr. I love the thyroid books to. I know there is no such thing as one size meets all....but for example no doctor ever told me deficiencies could be causing my lack of conversion of t4 to t3 and or I could take other test or supplements to help..that is huge!!!!...I AM ONE WHO APPRECIATES ANY RESOURCES ANYONE POST because knowledge is power over our own choices and health and this journey to feel great again.

I recall reading some research to the effect that when T4 patients tried NDT around 49% preferred it. Around 85 % do fine on T4. What it comes down to is what works for the individual. It makes some sense to have all the hormones produced by the thyroid ,not just the one and hope it converts. On the other hand the ratio of the different hormones produced in the pigs thyroid is different to a humans thyroid which in itself is problematic.

I Don't believe it is problematic, given that most T3 comes from conversion - the body makes what it needs - if the body is working properly. However, if you can't convert the T4, it doesn't matter what the ratio is, you're just not going to use that T4.

The problem (one of them!) with STTM, is that - despite what they say - they believe one-size fits all - everybody should be on NDT, everybody should multi-dose, etc. If you want to hear that kind of c**p, you can just go to your doctor!

I do, however, agree with the last comment : THINKING YOUR DOCTOR KNOWS MORE THAN YOU DO. But I would add to that : THINKING THAT STTM KNOWS MORE THAN YOU DO.
