I discovered this article published in Wakeup World. It is worth reading. There are many links attached. I invite those interested to read it and perhaps we can have a discussion on this study.
Study: Millions Treated for Hypothyroidism At R... - Thyroid UK
Study: Millions Treated for Hypothyroidism At Risk of Lung Cancer. Article published in Wakeup-World.Com.
I think the original paper is this:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
I was sure that the paper had been discussed here shortly after publication in 2013, but cannot find the thread!
I have sent link.
I bet in the previous discussion, if there was one, we would have concluded it was likely that it was because people are generally not put on enough levothyroxine. Iodine - and the lack of it - is implicated in breast cancer, after all. Or that it was the many years of not being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, courtesy of daft blood test ranges, before finally tipping a TSH over 5 (or even 10) before treatment is commenced, by which time the damage is done. Correlation is not causation.
I am just as much in the dark as some others on this site. I have sent the link that I read today. I have no further scientific evidence.

Here's a link to a similar discussion: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Thanks, I am not suggesting I believe in all that I see. I have posted the link now. That's all.
In my view the paper isn't worth the pixels used to display it on a screen. It looks at correlations, as if they had any merit on their own.
Just for entertainment value take a look at some more dodgy correlations :

I rather liked the correlation between consumption of orange marmalade and birth rate - in the years after the second world war if I remember correctly.
Link posted. Could be another marmalade how would we know? LOL.
I have posted the link, so you can see if it has any merit. I honestly do not know.
I am having a lot of trouble making any sense of this study. It does not seem to quantify the increased risk, and it keeps saying it is hyperthyroidism that causes the oxidised stress. I don't believe there are thousands of people on to high a dose of t4, so why does it feel they are hyper? Also, what is oxidised stress??? Is that what releases free radicals? Is so taking anti oxidants might be an idea. Also this study finds no link with breast cancer, when others have found a link.
I have always found this condition a riddle. I hope that with increased knowledge we will all find the right road. I posted it to see what anyone had to add. I am going to go for a walk with my dog :))
Thank you for posting it, I agree we all need as much knowledge as we can get!
All the more reason to prescribe T3, I say!
Nah, I would give this much credence. Just another excuse for keeping us on doses that are too low.
I make lots of marmalade... :-).
