If you are undertreated or undiagnosed, the answer is 'yes' it can make you quite ill that you're unable to work. You can be so fatigued that all you want to do is sleep. Makes our brain slow we cannot think clearly etc. etc. some have severe pain.
I don't think doctors understand that very clearly as they are told that as long as our TSH is 'in range' the patients' symptoms are nothing to do with their thyroid gland. That is where huge problems begin and the 'extra' prescriptions issued for the symptoms instead of sufficient thyroid hormones.
