Funny how they left out the Pituitary Gland altogether. Without ACTH from it, Cortisol is not made at all. Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency or Secondary Partial, which are Pituitary caused, are more common than Adrenal Glands going bad on there own. Any head injury, even mild, can knock the pituitary and cause it to malfunction.
Yes, but wouldn't that also have an effect on the TSH? I Don't think the intention is to address the pituitary in this particular article.
Not necessarily. Different parts of the pituitary do different things, depending on where the damage is. Sometimes only GH is low or high, sometimes it's only TSH that is effected etc.. Anytime you discuss Cortisol, you have to address the Pituitary because low cortisol could be caused by the Hypothalmus not signaling the Pit. to release ACTH, which causes the Adrenal Glands to release Cortisol. Too mush Cortisol, or Cushings, is usually caused by a Pituitary Tumor...too much ACTH is secreted.
Oh, well, you obviously know much more about this than I do. You should write to STTM and tell them. I'm sure Janey would be delighted.
Do you know where I can find information on what you have written faith63 please so I can print it out ? Thanks you.

Here is general information. I was told this by a nureoendo and i have lost the links since then. I know that you van find more by googling. I wish i could help you more, but having some health issues at the moment.
Thank you for that. But I Don't think we have such things as neuroendos in France. Difficult enough to find an ordinary endo! lol
I have read the best test to check your adrenal function and what your best option to correct it would be the hair mineral test. It far surpasses the blood or saliva test as it will tell you what is causing your adrenal problem and what to do to fix it. going to ask doctor to run it for me..
I cannot imagine asking a doctor to do a hair mineral test in France. I doubt they know what it is! It's hard enough to get blood tests sometimes, especially for things like adrenals. We have to stay realistic! lol
Most tests you can order on the internet and you can do them yourself and send them in. I will try to find the link and post. The test usually comes with directions and once you mail it out you will get results and the lab will tell you the answers with recommendations.
OK, thank you, I would be interested to see that.
i don't know how you could test your ACTH/pituitary by hair mineral testing..never heard of that?
The hair mineral test is to determine the health of your adrenals, what is causing your problem and what will fix it. Not sure if pituitary gland is part of it.
I'm very suspicious of hair mineral testing. I would assume that the results would be contaminated by substances in my shampoo. And what happens if (for example) I walk to and from a bus stop on a busy road 5 days a week, or I drive to work in a car with no roof in the summer. My hair isn't going to be exempt from being contaminated by exhaust fumes of other vehicles.
There are probably a dozen other ways of contaminating the results. I suppose you could argue that if contaminants are landing on my hair then I'm breathing them in too. But there would be so many confounding variables that you wouldn't know if the results meant anything or not.
Another thing...
Where do the people running these hair tests get their reference ranges? From a rural population? A city population? Clean people who are freshly showered? From people who've just washed their hair in a specific shampoo?
I'm not saying that hair mineral testing would never work. I don't know enough to say that. But I would need to be convinced it worked before I would part with cash. And I think I would take a lot of convincing.
