Jas, lymphocyte attacks on the thyroid gland can cause it to swell in order to produce more hormone. I don't know why it is bruised though.

What are lymphocytes..??

Jas, they're white cells which are supposed to fight infection, bacteria and virus but in autoimmune disease they turn on the thyroid gland itself seeing it as an invader.

I am really concerned as my daughter has regular flare ups am still awaiting an endo appointment docs have said they have referred her but nothing as yet..my daughter has been ill almost all of September.. Should I be looking for something else?

Jas, it is likely the Hashi's making her unwell. Gluten-free diet may reduce the frequency and intensity of attacks and have her ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate tested as they may be low and can make one feel very poorly.

Vitamin d is 39.

Jas1999, that's too low. Optimal is 75-200. I'd get her on vitD3 softgel capsules 5,000iu for 6 weeks to build her levels and then cut back to 5,000iu daily on alternate days. You could see if her GP will prescribe but anything less than 20,000iu weekly is going to take a long time to correct.

hi Clutter and Jas 1999 sorry to butt in on convo, I get terrible itching in the same area it goes really red seems to start within about ten mins of taking meds, not sure if this is similar, GP said its probably just an allergy take anti histamines??

Angel, yes it often helps if you are reacting to one of the fillers. Take the antihistamine an hour before whichever med is causing the itching. Hope it helps.
