I was given some for a lung infection quite a while before being diagnosed hypothyroid. I was fine for a few days then my brain seemed to "go funny". Never have been able to explain what happened to anyone else but I felt very odd in what seemed to be a very psychological way.

There is no reason to suggest a relationship with hypothyroidism (which must have been on its way for me), but at the same time, there is no basis for dismissing a connection.

My records now say I should not be given it again.

This antibiotic is known to stop absorption of thyroid medication and this is noted in their leaflet, enclosed in your pack. I was given it for a urinary tract infection and suffered badly. Make sure you refuse to have it again and ask for that to be added to your notes. Of course our GPs should know all this but somehow they never do.

I had a course of ciprofloxacin after my discharge from hospital, they made me feel extra tired and I looked like death, mind you I was recovering from a flare up of diverticulitis which kept me in hospital on a drip of antibiotics for 4 days.

ahhhhh my heart goes out to you, I know exactly how you are feeling, I was also given another antibiotic with the Ciprofloxacin called Metronidazole it was that which made me so sick, I just couldn't take it, I begged my GP to change it but she said no, and prescribed antisickness pills which didn't work, I ended up going to A&E for the sickness and they changed my tablets, but I did have to continue with the Ciprofloxacin..........hey I do hope you get better soon, it took me a couple of weeks to get back to 80% and a month for 100%.........big hug..........

I've just had to stop taking them for a urine infection, they were affecting my tendons. I was ordered to stop taking them by a G.P. as I had severe wrist pain after taking 7 of them, they can actually cause permanent damage to your tendons.

P.S. They also caused me insomnia which is a side effect of this horrible drug.
