Platelet count not stable

Hello, my dad got diagnosed with ITP 2yrs ago. We went for prednislone ...now his count is not stabilising . I want to ask how much time will it take for platelets to stabilize??

Is the same procedure being used every time?

Years ago I had very low platelet count for a couple of tests (one in private hospital and one via GP as consequence of that hospital contacting me very urgently over a weekend because of the alarmingly low number).

GP referred to haemo consultant who arranged a further blood test while I waited on the premises with prospect of painful bone marrow extraction procedures to follow. Turned out there had been reaction with another chemical which caused clumping of the platelets and therefore a clump was one platelet instead of many. The fresh test without the chemical causing the clumping reaction showed normal platelet count.
