Hi,

could you expand on this, please. Usually, if someone is hypothyroid the anesthiologist is cautious.

Local anesthetic doesn't work on me Shaws, I make sure I tell them and they keep topping it up and give me a much stronger dose! Only had this problem since I've had Hashi's! Is there a reason behind this?

I cannot answer. All I can say it was only when hypo that I developed an adverse reaction at the dentists to injection but now know the dental anaesthetic which causes me no problems and ensure they are using it before treatment.

Hi Angelharley

I too do not react in any way to local anaesthetic, and am never believed, even underwent a removel of a kidney in which I could feel everything! This was put down to "imagination", but I have had tests and proved it on my file that a local does not work! This was on the file, but further docs did not believe it as they though the doctor did not put the local in the right place etc... I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world (apart from my son!). I now know it is a genetic thing, and if you look up "super flexor" or double jointed people, they quite often carry the faulty gene. My grandson can bend his fingers all the way back to his hand, and we are waiting to see if he too is effected.

I have no idea if the faulty gene can effect the chances of thyroid disease, but it may be worth looking into.

I know it sounds selfish, but it is good to know there is someone else out there who does not react! Now to educate the doctors!
