No mental health problems which had me in a state. My gp wants nothing to do with me because of all my complaints but the reality is they were wrong it was the medication and I did not need anti depressants. I am recovering........

Good news, natty. I really do understand and sympathise on the GP front. I was offered anti-ds instead of proper thyroid treatment which suited my needs. In addition to deep depression and agoraphobia, my physical symptoms were horrendous- I even had several mini-strokes, and severe asthma, sky-high cholesterol (10.7 at its highest), weight out of control - all caused by being given only Levothyroxine. I was given statins, 2 different asthma inhalers, Clopidogrel, PPIs, and of course offered anti-depressants.

I am on T3-only plus various supplements since July 2013. The only medication I take from my GP is the clopidogrel which I am gradually reducing. No Statins, no asthma inhalers, no PPIs. And definitely no anti-depressants.

My depression is almost completely gone, I can go out alone, my cholesterol is down to 6.4, i have not used my inhalers since I started T3. Oh, and I have lost two stones in weight.

But the GP says I am crazy and I'm going to kill myself (I am not self-medicating - I am in the care of Dr BDP) because 'T3 is dangerous'. I asked him how dangerous, compared to strokes, asthma and obesity?

Thank u so much for your support, I thought I was losing my mind and was fearful...I have also started losing weight and not bloated all over. I feel hopeful and mentally fit.

I'm so disgusted by these stories. It's got to be dangerous to be on loads of meds, to feel like you're losing your mind and no one is listening. How dangerous can t3 be in comparison? These people are crazy. So happy for you that you escaped. x

My Endo is not happy with my self-medicated large dose of T3. I've very politely informed him that I'm not interested in my health being dictated by blood test results and losing years of my life so will continue using my judgement.

My friend has treatment-resistent depression and is on meds which may effect his liver so he needs regular blood tests. Another friend's dad has been on lithium for over thirty years for bipolar disorder and now has tremors and memory loss.

Docs don't have any problem putting people on meds which can hurt you, and rightly so because you have to manage your risks of being medicated against the risks of being unmedicated. Nothing is risk-free. I don't understand why so often they don't apply this logic to ht.

Thing is though puncturedbicycle, I remember in the 70's and 80's where women were prescribed tranquillisers and just left on them. Also, when I was around 16 years old I was prescribed phenobarbitones for insomnia! I kept falling asleep at work so threw them in the bin.

In those days there was a complete lack of guidance and information for the patient, instead it was the 'doctor knows best' nonsense.

I am so pleased for you....it's great to hear happy outcomes because this thyroid disease is so hard to cope with on every level.

Sorry about the relationship with your dr...again I know where you are coming from and am dreading having the whole thing rearing its ugly he'd if i need to go in for anything else.

Thankfully I have Dr P for guidance with ndt and this site.

I am on day 2 of my Amour and can relate to your issues and those of others that have replied.

My GP admits he has no knowledge of thyroid and has done his best to help by referring me to a specialist. (Bad experience)

I ended up seeing Dr P thankfully and my main issue was adrenal fatigue in turn I ended up with hasimoto. The adrenal was shot at therefore no amount of T4 (which made me dreadfully ill) would work .

Having read his book before my appointment I managed my adrenal by taking Nutri Adreno Max and Vitamin D etc.

I hope I am like you on the way to recovery, I have stopped HRT, antidepressants, vertigo medication etc, I was even diagnosed with COPD !!! ( not )

Something needs to be done within the NHS as took many people undiagnosed and have no quality of life .

GP out of his depth shocka!!

Long may you continue to do well. Unfortunately many of us have had no option but to educate ourselves as the NHS is clueless.

I totally agree, I too would be stuck in this rut if not for the help of this site & a lot of reading. I did ask for t3 at my Dr's but he just said see my endo first as he seemed to frightened to make the decision - the first time I saw my endo he said yes & worked the dose out and everything, he did the blood tests and a few days later an apology - the hospital people higher up had refused the prescription.

A few months later I ordered t3 off the internet - I felt great so kept taking it, months later I finally ordered ndt, I worked the dose out and believe it or not it's the first time I have felt normal in 33yrs - anyway I saw my endo again and told him I have started taking ndt and he said great and was happy I was feeling better (bloods taken about 10 bottles lol) so we shall see who is right when I receive the results ;).

I see the point of putting profit before patients for the big company's but peoples lives are being destroyed - so many prescriptions being made when only one is needed.

I do hope you keep with the t3 it says as long as the dose is correct you will have no side affects - but caffeine chocolate etc could give palpitations not the t3 it self, if you have trouble with t3 being to high you would suffer from palpitations tremors etc all the time not for a few min's so as long as you feel good stay with it - and good luck

Thank u, it was lovely reading your story and seeing that u have had a positive outcome, gives me faith.... These doctors are questionable and are putting our well being at risk. I am so happy I found thyroid uk because I do not know where I would be.

All those meds I just find it hard to believe that any doctor in his right mind would prescribe all those together. No wonder you felt ill.

I was really interested to read your posts, as I'm currently in the land of tons of medication,and now find I'm more and more drawn to NDT. 41 tablets plus one injection (growth hormone) every day gets tedious. So do 22 years of dicky thyroid,not to mention 41 years of pituitary warfare,plus the brain haemorrhage last year....I see my GP on Friday,armed with a monster list of questions!
