I am worried about side effects.
Does any one have this medication and how they feel.
Thanks

Sorry, I have never heard of that medication.
Hopefully someone a bit more helpful will pick this up from Latest Activity..

It's known as fosamax in some countries. it's a bisphosphonate - these drugs make bones denser but more brittle. Side effects include "phossy jaw" (necrosis of the jaw) and thigh fractures, heartburn and chest pains.

There must be better things to take. Someone here mentioned strontium (but not ranelate - that's just as scary)
Thanks Angel
To be honest I only noticed height loss hence the Scan. Apart from that no problem.
I only had problem when started all theses chemicals which I hate.
How long have you had hypothyroidism? Is your medication at the optimum level?
Can you get a print-out of your most recent thyroid gland blood test results, with the ranges, so that you can post for members to comment.
Why I ask is, I have just read the attached link.
Hi, I took alendronate for 6 years due to having to take medication for breast cancer which thins the bones they say.I had no specific problems with it but did not feel too comfortable taking it.It does strengthen the bones but can make them more brittle so if they do fracture or break it can be a more complicated thing than straight forward break. It is very rare for it to affect jaw bone but is something that can happen.I took pill once a week but you have to be upright for 1/2 hr afterwards and no food drinks etc also.Did not have infusions so that may be different. As A of theNorth says some say a better biphosphanate is available.Alendronate surprise surprise is very cheap! The other is more expensive for them to prescribe so alendronate is usually offered first.
Hi Shaws
I have been Hypo for almost ten years. I requested the blood test loosing hair and eye lashes. Initially I saw the Prof privately I said for one session. He did all the tests it almost cost me £1000 Any way next visit on the NHS I was discharged with no instructions. On thyroxine up to last year t3 was low. After a long battle i was out on IothYronine 40mcg daily. My cramps disappeared, until last month started to smell in my nostrils not foul or acetone. Requested blood result was done in Sept, Gp never contacted me results as follows;tsh suppressedft3/4v low tsh0.01 plasma freet4 2.4 plasma free t3 8.9 as soon as i saw this reduced Liothy to 20mcy contacted the Endo unitx5 eventualy had blood test 6 feb they did tsh only at4.12
I have now asked them to do t3 hopefully will be done this friday.
Thank you all
Taking Liothyronine (T3) suppresses TSH and FT4. You may not have needed to reduce your dose. How are you feeling? If you still have hypothyroid symptoms you may need to increase your T3 again.
