Nothing is Normal in the Thyroid world ! We are all individuals. If you are well and feeling good then it is the right dose for you. If not then we need to know just a little more ! TFT's with their ranges - posted - and then someone will comment and help. Diet ? Gluten Free ? Vitamins and Minerals ?

I think you will find lots of people take a similar dose and are fine. Mostly the people on here are looking for answers or wanting to learn more - as is the case with me !

Have you had a look at website of Izabella Wentz thyroidrootcause.org thyroidlifestyle.com Her book is also a good read. Signing up for her Newsletter is also informative. She has Hashimotos and is Pharmacist - so lots to learn from her experience. Just thought it may be helpful.

Before the blood tests came in people were medicated between 200mcg and 400mcg as being normal doses. Some may have need a higher. The purpose should be to take enough thyroid hormones to make you well.

When people are on slightly higher than average doses, it seems sensible to think whether there is a reason. The most obvious question is whether the levothyroxine is getting fully absorbed. Taking the levothyroxine at the same time as food, drinks (other than water), supplements or other medicines can interfere with absorption.

This can be important as, say, you did something which changed your patterns, you could end up somewhat over-dosed quite quickly. Possibly a holiday, or a diet, or a change of another medicine.

But if it is simply that you need it, well, so be it. The actual amount really doesn't seem very important. There was one extreme case of a person taking 3000 micrograms a day for years - and being fine on it.

Do you take them well apart? Or all together?

Whatever else, if you need the 250, then you need it, regardless of why! Finding out if there is a reason might be interesting and could help avoid future problems. So don't worry, but do think about possibilities.
