I'd like to see the amount of doctors that AREN'T revalidated myself, not much point in doing it if they are just going to hand out revalidations like smarties (or anti-depressants, which seems to be more apt)

Don't think there is an opt-out option is there. I am willing to give this system the benefit of the doubt and see how it goes, the way I look at it is that at least checks are being made and certain standards (hopefully) will have to be met.

Maybe if more thyroid sufferers complained about the treatment they are getting the GMC will see a pattern immerge and do something about it (or maybe that just wishful thinking).

The GMC will start striking off in 2014. They will also publish stats so we can keep checking their website.

I can't help feeling that the GMC is a gentlemens club who are answerable to nobody.

Mind you, I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the three GPs at the same surgery, whom I made formal complaints about, have their revalidation. Wonder if they'll get training in recognising the bleedin' obvious hypothyroid symptoms!

I have no confidence in the NHS and not just with regard to thyroid matters.

Weed out the bad from the good? Sounds like an expensive, pen-pushing, job creation scheme to me. I'll take bets that no-one fails to be "revalidated". Sounds rather Orwellian to me. It makes no mention of providing better training for GPs.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me and while they're at it why don't they look into the kick backs pharmaceutical companies are giving to doctors to push drugs like statins and blood pressure tablets to name a few.

Thankfully, our NHS system generally means our doctors are less influenced by 'kick backs' than in countries such as the US. I thought the conflicting opinions on statins (and BP meds) of the two medical profs interviewed by Michael Mosley recently in 'Trust me I'm a docotr' was sending a very important message.
