Can levothyroxine stop menstrual cycle

Hi I've been taking levo for three weeks now and my menstrual cycle is late can its alter them that quickly?

I would not have thought so I have been taking levothyroxine for about 10 yrs and has never effected mine but everyone is different

yes, it can affect your menstrual cycle quite a bit. doesnt affect everyone nor have the same affect for everyone.

once you are on a steady dose it will fall into a regular cycle, which may or may not be the same cycle you were in before

Yes it can, thyroxine and the hormones involved in your cycle interact, it will settle back again to a regular cycle (if you had one to begin with) mine fluctuated from about 25-32 days for about a year before it settled at 26.

I started taking l.thyroxine in aug 2012... my periods only ever last one to two days and are very light.. my gp cannot explain why.

Testosterone is know to affect thyroid regulation.From memory something to do with the D2/D3 connection.

Women do have testosterone, though typically only around 10% that of men. In men Test.drops off dramatically with age - apart from the pollution aspect of 'Pill' hormones,Pthalates, BPA and etc coming into play.

I've noted that some reports say low Test leads to low Thyroid and some the other way round- but they are certainly connected and NOT necessarily in a bad way- it seems that it's one way the body can down-regulate sex for survival benefits..
