Unfortunately Floles many GP's are unaware how metabolism works when we are taking hormones for our thyroid gland. This link will give you information as to why adjusting medication due only to the TSH result can cause more problems:-

This is an excerpt and go to date January 25, 2002

Dr Lowe: Your observations don’t suggest to me that your pituitary gland isn’t functioning properly. In fact, your observations are consistent with what science tells us about a patient's T4 dose, her TSH level, and her metabolic health or lack of it. If the goal of a doctor is metabolic health for his patient, he has no scientific basis for adjusting her thyroid hormone dose by her TSH level. If the doctor is going to make the imprudent choice of treating the patient with T4 (rather than T3 or a T3/T4 combination), he should be aware of the relevant physiology and treat her on the basis of it. Otherwise, he's likely to ruin her health, as your doctor appears to be doing to yours.

If I were you I would up my meds to what they were and go back to the doctor and tell him what you have done. He cannot leave you with none when you run out of levo early and will have to give you more. It is unbelievable what doctors do to their patients. They are meant to "do no harm" but can't seem to help themselves. Plus the doctor is meant to work with YOU to make you better, and not the other way round. Hope your doctor understands when you tell him what you have done. Take care.

That is disgraceful. I hope Joanna is correct about what your doctor will do but in effect you let him off the hook if he feels he will somehow be chastized for ""overdosing"" you. He can just say you are noncompliant. If he warns you about doing that and insists you stay on a lower dose, there are other options. Don't let this continue.
