I get words wrong a lot I know what I want to say but I say the wrong thing! I'm sure this only started post total thyroidectomy . I'm fine at work but I have to do lists and am quite organised thankfully!

It depends. It's normal for us! I am post TT too and when I was under-medicated (still am, a bit) I was terrible. I can't afford to burn many more pans due to putting them on and then forgetting, sitting down and falling asleep - only to wake with sinking heart to that familiar scorched metal stink...

Oh dear that's worse I've not set fire to dinner . I've forgot to put the washing machine on then wondered why it was taking do long. Actually I have burnt dinner too I forgot lol!

So do you think it could be another sign that even with normal tsh I'm still having symptoms of being hypo?

'normal TSH'. Don't believe the hype! The TSH is not a thyroid hormone, it is a pituitary hormone. If you want to know how you are, you need to find out your thyroid hormone levels, and in particular the free T3.

My TSH is 0.01 which the doctor days is too low, must reduce my thyroxine to 'normalise' my TSH. I immediately had a private blood test for TSH, free T4 and free T3 (at home, a simple finger prick) and my TSH was, indeed very low. My T4 was just above the lab range, but my T3 was barely above the bottom of the range. No wonder I had been feeling tired, heavy, forgetful plus a myriad of other symptoms.

As you see, the TSH tells you very little. If I agreed to what the doctor wanted I would be below the minimum and back to where I was when I was getting TIAs, cholesterol sky-high and heart problems.

I'm also 39 and have had this problem for quite a few years :( It takes me ages to type anything as I keep typing the letters back to front lol I have also set fire to a tea towel by putting it down on a hot hob. Driven off a couple of times when my son was getting his school bags out of the boot, almost on to drive in to an oncoming(empty thank god) lane instead of my own lane and that's just the stuff I can remember lol

I used to be organised and have gradually ended up in total chaos with lists everywhere but always trying to push myself and keep going :)

Did you ever mention it to your doctor ?

No, there's no point. Can't see what they'd do??? My friends just think I'm scatty but I know different.

It's actually got to the point that I'm scared to speak to anyone intellectual(which I have to do a lot) because I can't remember the most basic facts. I can read a page in a book, several times and literally can't remember most if not all of what a just read within 5-10 minutes of reading it. I just try and 'blag' it or laugh it off most of the time and hope at some point I will regain my mind - always trying to stay positive :)

I can totally understand why you haven't mentioned it to your doc but feel we should as it is a symptom. Sadly they only seem to care about tsh

i did read somewhere that senile dementia is sometimes misdiagnosed hypothyroidism, keep taking the tablets, my memory was at it's worst over the menopause years. now I have trained my work, family and friends to ring and confirm I am coming / babysitting etc with enough notice for me to say, 'of course i'm on my way' I know they know I've forgotten. I stopped worrying about it, just glad I've got good friends and colleagues who often have memory lapses themselves. oh i'm 60 by the way and haven't forgotten for 1 minute that my retirement age is in 3yrs, 11 months and 17 days. perhaps we only remember the important stuff, jude

I'm not senile yet .. Having everything stored in my iPhone helps :)

I've got Graves' disease and severe TED, my mind is muddled, I'm very forgetful, anxious, nervous, and the list goes on. I've just had my thyroid gland totally removed, so I'm hoping my life will now improve. I have to check over and over again anything I do, write and say, it's so difficult. I'm driving my hubby, family and friend round the bend. It a good job I took early retirement, luckily I stared getting my pension in September. We had to move to a bungalow because I was so weak I couldn't climb the stairs without resting half way up!

The Scottish thyroid petition page on Facebook is great and also the thyroid sexy page

I've noticed a check and double check things too . My main worry is saying things wrong rather than forgetting so I suppose muddled is me ;)
