Thanks J

I am just wondering how many of us have experienced this and if there is a direct link with hypothyroidism. Another reply gave me a link where tinnitus is listed as a symptom of hypothyroidism - WWW.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/ab

Tinnitus. A symptom of hypothyroidsm that is not being properly treated:

Yes - I've had this for years and years. Initially I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease in 2007 (but I didn't feel that it was Meniere's at the time)... Diagnosed hypo September 2012, started on 75mcg Levo working up to 200mcg in January this year. All the while I had 'whooshing' / tinnitus. Plus my ears felt very 'full'. My dose was changed in February to 150mcg T4 and 20mcg T3. I started noticing in May that the whooshing wasn't so bad - and it was only when reading this that I realised that it's now much better than it was... So I'd say that with time, you may be lucky... I'm 9 months on medication now, and while I don't think I'm on the optimal dose yet, it's good to notice some improvement....

Thanks, seems that tinnitus can be a symptom of under treated hypothyroidism. Yet another symptom!

I suddenly developed bad tinnitus last February - it coincided with my TSH rising to 59.0 and both fT3 and fT4 were below range. Once dosage was increased it went thankfully :) xx

Please just check your blood pressure as well. When I was on the pill( long time ago) my BP suddenly went up and I could hear it in the ears. Most likely tinnitus though.

Thanks Roslin. I have been keeping an eye on my BP & am about to ask another question re wide pulse pressure.

The whooshing comes and goes; not as bad as the horrible high frequency noise which I've had for years. I do feel it's related to hypo but whether it is inflammation, I don't know. Cannot ever get rid of it. It is only on the right side of my head. I blame any residual problems of being hypo because of Synthroid for the first six years, now I take Armour.

I am hoping it goes away when thyroid is properly treated but I've had it for 3 years now and was sent from Billy to Jact (several different consultant specialities). I really hope it's not too late. It's distressing at times and I have also lost hearing at certain tones in right ear (per audiogram).

Whooshing has improved but looking at other posts it can come and go. Now taking less thyroxine - 75mcg so maybe that has helped
