What sort of suggestions do you want? You don't give us very much information.

4 weeks isn't very long - in my opinion not long enough to have a blood test, I would say 6 weeks. It takes that time for the body to start converting the T4 (levo) you're taking into T3.

One thing I would suggest is to ask for a copy of your blood test results. It is your legal right to have them. And keep your own records. You can always post them here if you don't understand them and someone will be able to help you.

Hugs, Grey

You say you keep taking Ibuprofen - are you taking this anywhere near your thyroid meds? If so then this is not a good idea. Thyroid medications should be taken with at least a two hours gap from food, drink (except water), any supplements you are taking and any other medication such as Ibuprofen.

Also some people find in beneficial to take their thyroid meds of a night, just before they turn off their light, again sticking to the no food or drink for two hours (except water) rule so that the body can absorb it into the system better with no obstructions such as food, milk (which contain calcium and is a big no, no) or any other medication.

take levo 50mg approx 1 hr before breakfast ibuprofen 1/2 after breakfast then every four hours as the pain is getting me down

Taking your levo one hour before food is not ideal. The tablet has not had time to break down and absorb into the body before your stomach is filled with food which means that you could be reducing its effectiveness. Not only are you on a 50 mcg's starting dose but you are possible stopping that working properly by eating to soon and also taking other medication all within two hours - no wonder you are not getting very far.

Try changing to night time dosing, just before you turn off your light, making sure you have had northing, except water, for at least two hours (possible leave a longer gap for the ibuprofen).

If I were you I would take it tonight - it is such a small amount that it wont do any harm plus it is not used by your body straight away but will stay in your system for up to six weeks.

Glad you have decided to stop the ibuprofen as it cant be doing you any good taking it all day every day as it contain paracetamol doesn't it.

Lets us know if the change to night time dosing makes a difference.

Have a look at this link to the main thyroiduk website regarding signs and symptoms - it may be useful and explain the pain you are having.

Then maybe print it off, tick the appropriate boxes, and take it along to your GP's with you - it cant do any harm can it.

Your 50mcg starting dose is too low and needs to be increased. These low doses suppress your thyroid from producing much of it's own thyroxine and 50mcg isn't enough to replace the level of thyroxine your body needs. It's normal to feel achy in the early days. Ask your GP to put you up to 75mcg, then approx every 4 weeks you should up your meds by 25mcg at a time until your symptoms improve.

I have to take other drugs and I keep them a good 4 hours away from my Levo. XX

your the only person to tell me its normal to feel achy thanks now i know this i can cope knowing it will get better with right levo dose thanks rosebud x

Hi Rosebud, you have to be very patient though. I think most people take a year or two to find their optimal treatment. I thought you take the pills you get better! Sometimes you have to experiment with doses or other treatments. Xx
