Want to change medication to Armoru, have researched medication, seeing doctor later on, would this be a good decision to change medications or would it be less suitable compared to the levothyroxin?

75 mcg is a teeny weeny dose. A starter dose. You should not have been left on it for 13 years. I'm not surprised you don't feel well! Do you have copies of your TSH? Just saying it is 'normal' is meaningless.

As for Armour, it is better for some people but not for everybody. But it isn't easy to get a prescription. Personally, I would have thought it would be better to try and get a decent dose of levo first, because a lot of people do well on it once they're on the right amount, and it's much easier to obtain. Obviously, you're not going to feel well on it if you're not taking enough.

Have you had your FT4 and FT3 tested? What about iron, ferritin, B12 and D? All these things should be tested before making a decision. The levels are important.

Hugs, Grey

New to all this, just found you all, done nothing but read.I have always took doctors word as gospel, take these tablets you be fine, all these years putting up shutting up thinking I'm going mad, falling to pieces ,can't loose weight ,no energy, cry for nothing,my latest symptoms of about 3 months a terrible wheeze chest, had endless antibiotics and steroids it keeps coming back, doc said bronchitis also pain in low stomach when bladder filling, doc said water infection ,took water sample, came back fine I'm told.doc only go of TSH reading was 2-9 but that not true reading because I just read on here somewhere I'm not to have any thyroxin tablets on the morning of the blood to be took which obviously I took every time.N ever had ft4-ft3 tested what reading should I have. Had iron tested doc said fine.what reading should I have.B12 D ferritin.what readings should I have.So I can check and look like I know something .So glad I found u guys,so much makes sense now,I'm not mad thx Gray x

No Denne, you are not mad, you are hypothyroid and your doctor should be ashamed of himself!

Once you are on thyroid hormone replacement, your TSH should be blow one. 2.9 is much too high. And that would probably be even higher if you hadn't taken your tablet before the test. So, next test, don't take levo that morning, and try to have your test as early in the morning as possible because that's when TSH is highest.

For the FT4 and FT3 they should be up the top of the range, whatever the range is, because ranges differ from laboratory to laboratory.

For B12, D etc I can't remember but you could post a seperate question on that subject and someone will tell you.where they should be.

Lots of luck, Grey x

My level is up to 150 mg per day although originally went up to 175 mg. I still feel tired (I go for afternoon sleep 2hrs), unable to reduce weight and rather "can't be bothered anymore". Things that I enjoyed no longer enjoy. I believe the under-active thyroid was the cause of my stroke and later my 3x bypass operation. However, I am still here.

Practice mindfulness at all times. I AM.

....do you know your FT3 levels ? take a look at hindawi.com/journals/jtr/261 Also a book on Amazon UK you can read through called Thyroid and Heart Failure - again T3 is well documented.

You have had a difficult journey - just may be worth exploring the possibility of adding some T3. Wishing you sunny days soon............

Hi I am allergic to levo but still cannot get Armour, except with a private script Expensive . The first choice is usually T4 ( Levo) and T3, make sure you have first had a test for TSH, T4 and Free T3, if T4 on the high side but FT 3 low in range, then you need some T3 and possibly a little less T4. Certainly if FT3 is not really high i range, it would make all he difference to have some T3 on a script + the Levo. The blood tests are essential. as you do not want the FT3 to go above range. These are essential even if just changing to Armour.

I hope that helps,

Best wishes,

Jackie

These are all the tests you COULD get but I'm sure they will not do. It explains the few you might consider relevant right now. I'm pretty sure you are deficient in vitamin D and should probably supplement on D3 (if you have never done so) since it has a lot to do with infections, etc.
