Has anyone experienced this? I feel like I’ve got it but just wanted to ask what symptoms you’ve had if you’ve suffered from it and what caused it? Thanks
Gastric Vertigo?: Has anyone experienced this? I... - IBS Network
Gastric Vertigo?
I have a tendency to "silent migraine". When I say "silent", I mean little to no headache, and only visual light displays which last max. about 20-30 minutes. But it causes other fuss, such as "feeling weird generally" (no other way to describe it, I'm sorry), gut disturbance (GI tract working too fast and often linked to when I get the "auras", but sometimes unexpected constipation too for no logical reason. Constipation doesn't last long; maybe 2 days) Sometimes a slight nausea, heart skipping beats, maybe 5 or 10 a minute, a feeling of dread, dizziness sometimes, broken sleep, awful lower back pain, trapped wind....etc.
Doctor checked my heart, says it's "perfect". Told me to go back if it gets worse or changes badly.
I think it might be an affect on the Vagus nerve which causes all these different symptoms. Doctor never mentioned that though.
I was diagnosed with "likely migraine phenomena" by a neurologist in 2018. Then again with IBS in summer 2020. I think they are linked.
I've had a lot of help from consulting a homeopathic practitioner, and have improved very very slowly and gradually over time. But I do still get the odd flare up, and sometimes those other symptoms. I had a migraine aura today, felt my lower gut protest a bit, and became a bit dizzy-ish about an hour ago.
Usually I just help my IBS by adjusting my diet, to low fibre...higher fibre...depending on what's going on. I go for good walks in fresh air every day, use deep heat cream on my lower back, deal with symptoms as best as I can, as they come along, and just trundle on basically. I have found no magic cure, just management, and I am doing OK really I think.
So the only connection I personally have found between dizziness or vertigo and IBS, is the "migraine link". That's just my own personal case, and it might or might not be yours. Could you ask your doctor about this?
That's interesting. I too get the visual aura (no headache) which last about 30-40 minutes. I had severe migraine in my teens, but I had never related either of these to my gut issues. I find that a 'baby aspirin' (30mg?) daily prevents them from happening. If I run out, they happen much more frequently. It is no longer recommended, but it works for me.
There could be a link; I have IBS and IBD (the IBS 25 plus years). But I also have had (only about 3 times over the past 15 years) neurological issues where a neurologist having run tests told me I do indeed have migraine auras which included vertigo as well as a feeling of panic/dread, weakness, palpitations, nausea etc. My mother suffered with these most of her life and so I think asides the brain-gut connection, there is an element of genetics too (in my case). I also have a meningioma (a tumour that is benign and grows very very slowly) and for that I'm under 'watch and wait' so assumed once I knew about the meningioma that the auras were connected but apparently not. Each instance of having these auras lasted a few months on and off and were connected with a large amount of stress. I was given various meds including amitriptyline but it did not help and actually, just de stressing did! The neurologist suggested talking therapy which did help so consider this if need be.
I get all manner of symptoms with IBS one of them being migraines and headaches lately of a Vestibular nature with a strange unbalanced sensation rather like being on a ship in high seas ! makes a change from auras that i sometimes get!
