I have IBS Mixed (I think).. I can go to the loo 6 times a day, but it is loose and feels incomplete, which i have read can actually be constipation. Other times i have the bad cramping and explosive D.
Currently trying Alflorex and Optifibre to try and bulk the stool, with not much improvement yet
I remember when I first got diagnosed with IBS , some 12 years ago, my DR first prescribed me Mebeverine. I said it didn't work, but I don't think i really gave it a chance. Considering trying it again, but does it only help with the cramps or can it help stool consistency too?
Thanks

If you have mixed IBS or getting overflow diarrhea due to constipation, mebeverine could make constipation worse since it can slow gut transit down. You might need to give the Alflorex (up to 3 months) and Optifibre (working up the dose as described on the tin) time to work. Ground flaxseed and/or chia seeds (soaked in cereal 'milk' or porridge for 15 mins) might also help.
My doctor prescribed Mebevrine back in November, as Buscopan was not helping me with my pain. Sometimes it helps, other times not. I believe it is just an anti-spasmodic, like Buscopan?
