Clinics for IBS

Hi everyone,

I’ve been suffering from IBS D for around 10 years and the symptoms seem to be getting worse. I’ve tried various ways to control my symptoms but without success. As a last resort I have been considering two possible IBS clinics - The Harley Street IBS clinic (Deborah Grant), and the London Gastroenterology Centre in Welbeck Street. Has anyone had any experience of these clinics? Grateful for your views.

Sorry, no experience of any private clinics but would be interested to hear how you get on if you do go down the private route. Good luck!

Many thanks. I’m undecided what to do as yet.

Watching what others might say with keen interest - weirdly enough, I was looking at both of these clinics just this morning following another terrible flare up. The London gastroenterology centre seemed to have really positive trustpilot reviews. Saw a thread on here about the other which was less favourable - some saying they felt the main practitioner didn’t treat them well, was very money oriented and withheld results without further payments, etc. that said, I think it was an old post so will be interesting to see if anyone else has had more recent experiences with either. Good luck!

Many thanks for your comments which are really helpful. I’m still pondering the next step and am considering the London Gastro Clinic. However, my experience so far with an NHS Gastroenterologist has been that IBS is regarded as a functional disorder which you just have to deal with it, which is very unhelpful. It may be literally be a case of trial and error. I’m so grateful to have found this forum.

i saw Deborah grant . She is very expensive £300 for an initial consultation and wanted to give me some tests which have no scientific backing whatsoever. I am not going back.

Thank you for the feedback. I had heard the same comments from other people. I don’t think that I will be pursuing this option.

I have been to see Deborah Grant and feel I need to share my own experience as it was a positive one. Deborah was recommended to me by 2 people who had been her patients for around a year/18 months. I was impressed by the obvious improvement in their health - one has even been signed off as they are now fully well. Seeing their improvement spurred me to book in with Deborah too. I have been to GPs and various consultants and was on the brink of having invasive surgery - something I really didn't want. I went to Deborah, out of sheer desperation, to see if there was an alternative option. She has a very different approach - she asked me so many more questions than any practitioner has asked me before. I bit the bullet and paid for tests, praying it was the right decision - and it was the best money I have ever spent as the results showed a clear picture as to what was happening within my body. During the follow-up appts with Deborah, we worked as a team to track my progress and amend my treatment plan based on how I was responding. I am amazed by how much I have improved. I did not need surgery, I feel with Deborah I am FINALLY on the road to recovery. I trust Deborah implicitly and am so grateful to the two people who recommended her to me - I can't imagine I would have gone to see Deborah if I had not seen their recovery for myself.
