Hi everyone my name is Helen and I’ve just been diagnosed with ibs, I take over the counter medication which the nurse suggested, these are laxido, senna and buscopan, however I’m still seem to be struggling with bloating which is really uncomfortable. I do drink loads of water and exercise 3 times a week, so any advice on the bloating would greatly be appreciated. 🙂

Hi Helen, sorry you're having a rough time. It may be that you have a food intolerance that is making you bloated. Try keeping a food and symptom diary for a few weeks and see if anything jumps out at you. There's a good one available through the ibs network but I just created a spreadsheet. I recorded what I ate and when, what symptoms I had and when and my stress levels and any thing I was doing (exercise, work, etc). It was a bit of a pest but it highlighted the link between what I ate and how I felt both physically and mentally. You might need to concider the fodmap diet but you'll need a dietician to take you through that process so if you can show your GP that food is an issue then you'll have more ammunition to get a referral.Good luck xx
Great, thanks for that information, I have eliminated a few foods from my diet which I think are triggering the bloating. I’ve also looked at the fodmap diet and can’t seem to get my head round that one! I’m going to see how I go for the time been , the bloating seems to have calmed down for the time been but I’m sure it will reoccur before long.
