Hi there,An abdominal ultrasound about 3-4 years ago picked up a cyst on my liver. According to the radiographer’s report and my GP they didn’t feel it was anything malignant or in need of further investigation (something to do with the shape and size).

My liver function is checked every couple of months via blood tests I have, due to drugs I take for Rheumatoid Arthritis, and they always come back within normal range, so GP doesn’t feel it necessary to refer me to a liver specialist.

Apparently it’s not uncommon for these to be discovered ‘accidentally’ via scans for other issues. I have no symptoms from it and would never have known about it otherwise!

Do you have any symptoms with yours?

Hi thanks for your reply.. I don’t have any symptoms or not that I know of. Not sure what they would be. Mine was detected when I had an ultrasound for persistent acid reflux. They found a gallbladder polyp too!

I have them on both liver and kidney but apparently they are not something to be concerned about unless blood work and other weird symptoms occur.

Yes I’ve heard that, that many people are walking around with a few extra bits that only get discovered by accident whilst investigating something else completely different. I was also told that some people can be completely unaware that they only have one kidney until it’s spotted accidentally in an X-ray or scan!

I have multiple liver cysts, most of the time it can just cause slight discomfort. Have you been in touch with the uk liver charity they do a good write up on the condition and you can ring them if you have any questions. They are helpful.
