IBS-C. Nothing is working.

Still battling constipation. Added healthy juicing.. I have found that fiber seems to make me worse even with lots of liquids. Exercise..colace..mom..colon cleanse..mineral oil.. None of these to an extreme. Just trying to get relief.

1 BM 4 days ago..now back to NOTHING.

Also tried smooth move tea..use to work..not anymore. I try to wait it out.

Its getting worse. Also started drinking buttermilk..supposed to be excellent for the digestion. Good for gas!! HELP IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT I CAN TRY!!

Also did prune juice but that gave me significantly increased blood sugar levels. I feel hopeless in this matter.

Drink two litres of water per day, and carry on with other soft drinks. I have recently found that two kiwi fruits per day has helped immensely. If you are not obstructed, ask your GI team of GP if you could try 2 cans of Coca Cola on day one and two and one can on day 3 and 4. This seems to have worked for a few of us on here, don't know why, it maybe due to the acid in the secret recipe. Please check with you medics first, and it only works with the original brand, I'm afraid.

Thank you! I did try kiwi..unfortunately im one of the few who seems to be allergic. :-( I use to drink sodas but gave them up. Worth a try i suppose.

I take RYR..and it seems to be raising my blood sugar. Kinda afraid to start sodas.

Hi Autumn,

I recently have suffered bad constipation, up to a week at times and then a day when it all seems to happen, and that leaves me with a sore tummy with nothing in it, only to start all over again.

I have started, only a few days ago drinking one litre of tepid water over the whole day. I am not a big person so I figured that would be enough for me, you've got to keep it going though.

The other thing is, to stop thinking /worrying about it, just let it happen, some people only go every three days, I was like that. And also because I am a very anxious person, I suffer from muscle tension in my back and neck etc. I tend to hold myself rigid and I figure if I can tense my muscles like that all day I must be tensing my insides too, and then nothing is moving, if you get my meaning.

So drink water every day, stop worrying about it and relax.

Just some thoughts, I wish you well.

Hi Autumn822,

You might have some sort of blockage. My problems started in a similar way about 7 or 8 years ago. Initially I tried everything- more fibre, more liquid, oil etc. I ended up in A&E. They gave me lactulose and after taking that for a day or so, small hard pellets started coming out.

I was later sent for various tests and they found I had intersussepcion which was causing the main problems (it’s a type of bowel prolapse, different in adults to the one in children). From that I was told definitely not to take fibre supplements or stimulant laxatives as that can make things worse and fibre can cause blockages. I was told to take softening stuff - movicol or lactulose. I personally find lactulose better and the colorectal nurse I see also says lactulose can be better for some people - movicol gives me gas and bungs me up.

I also use an irrigation system every day which helps a lot but I only got that after I had been in the hospital system a while.

There can be different reasons for constipation. - diet and exercise aren’t always the answer. In fact usually I find relaxation helps me more than exercise on bad days. Hope you find a solution.

Best wishes.

Hello, I don't know why high fibre is recommended for IBS-C when it only serves to bulk up stools even further. Tamarind is a powerful laxative fruit if you can get it. Syrup of figs helps our daughter.

How large is your BM after 4fsys, is it painful because it is too big or too hard. Fiber only made things worse for me too, despite massive fluid intake. I do better with low fiber, and find that every 4or 5 days works pretty good. On the 4th or 5th day 3/4 TBSP castor oil works in about 2 hours. I think I'm repeating myself.

Sorry

Magnesium Oxide can be used as a laxative. It is non gas forming and it sucks water into the bowel to make stools soft.

Can you eat nuts? 1/4 cup of walnuts etc at 11am and 3 pm is a great thing. I also has a colonic by a reputable woman. The toxic waste on the insides of ones bowel can be built up over the years. I lost 6 kilos after that. It took over the weekend but I’ve not put it back on,

Good luck

Hi,

Sorry to hear you're struggling. We have information on constipation here theibsnetwork.org/constipat...

Thanks to all for their replys!!

I am gonna try all these suggestions and see if something works!!

Hi Autumn

Someone on here posted a couple of years ago about using Linseeds (Flaxseeds). A dessertspoonful in about half to a full mug of water, let it sit for at least half an hour then drink. When I used to have IBS C it worked a treat for me.

I know longer have IBS C as I had food poisoning in November 2018 and ended up with IBS D, fortunately that is getting better now.

All the best

in reply to

I will try that!!

Thank you!

Hi i too suffer with ibs c and now my folate levels are low and vitamin d so the tablets i am taking make the constipation worse so on a visit to the docs she gave me Laxido which you mix with water they did work after 2 days so they might be worth a try and drink plenty of water i am still constipated so i take 1 every day i know we are all different and what works for one person doesn't work for another, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks so much!! I too am Vitamin D deficient..and have to take supplements.

Hello,

I had IBS for 2 decades.

Finally, probiotics/prebiotic helped.

I tried the natural way.

Made yogurt from milk (see google). First day I consumed mostly this yogurt with small bread crumbs and Rice and apple(took vitamins too) (BRAT diet).

I continued using this home made yogurt as major part of my main food for a week or two (nothing fried and no meat but fish and a lot of boiled vegetables and water).

Noticed slight improvements after 3rd day.

It got better every day. Now I consume plain yogurt daily and a lot of vegetables and not much meat or deli food.

I am not sure if it will help you, but it changed my life. My Dr. was curious how I was free of IBS; the answer was to help the good bacteria to grow in intestines. I Hope it might help you too.

All I can suggest is lemon fybogel not orange its disgusting. You can buy it from the chemist and you need to drink alot. Also cranberry/ raspberry juice works for me. Can't take senocot it gives me excruciating stomach cramps. Hope that helps . There is also lactulos it just softens it up.

I have IBS-C and found Metamucil works for me. Just be careful to stick to the dosage they suggest. My dosage was only once a day and it cleaned me out. Metamucil is only sold online so I took the tub (which is large) to my Gastroenterologist, who advised that it would be ok to take for my constipation problems. Might be worth a try if nothing else works.

Have you tried Pineapple juice. I find it helps. I would need to drink a whole carton per day.

I am finally getting some relief through taking 1 Tsp. of Olive oil in the morning and continued jucing along with..fermented tea and..buttermilk.

We will see how long this lasts. :-)

Hi, before I had my large colon removed the only thing that helped a little was drinking the dispersable vit c tablets... I used to drink 2 at a time morning and evening, your body pees out the excess vit c. This was before my bowels became completely silent. It’s an awful situation to be in and you have my sympathy. Good luck x btw I bought them in tubes from tesco or home bargains, I was using irresida irrigation system for home enemas but it seriously made me ill. I self referred to a surgeon I had googled about, after many tests and trying meds through the surgeon she offered me an ileostomy. It’s been an emotional roller coaster but I would do it again for the mental relief of knowing I’m not sitting on the toilet for hours daily.

What about beetroot, coleslaw, cooked onions, spring onions, baked beans, lot of vegetables, pears. I am sure you have tried all these natural foods. I cannot eat them as they have a laxative effect on me. Liqourice (sorry cannot spell that) but it may have too much sugar in for you. Syrup of figs? Years since I had that. I wish I could help as i know it must be a real problem.
