I get very frustrated because i don't think doctors take ibs serious I don't think they realise how debilitating it is. And yes it does cause anxiety because you feel as though you're not getting any understanding from the source that should be helpful. 3yearspain

Hi i am 3yearspain an ibs and diverticulitis sufferer
I agree. I feel there is no follow up or real support even when you are diagnosed with it. I was told about the FODMAP diet and rest i found out online what to avoid etc. One thing tho that my daughter suggested was to do a list on the fridge of what is ok to eat. Its a positive list rather than a negative one. Best wishes for you to be out of pain.
I agree with you. I don't think they realise because they have never had it.
If you can, go and see someone who has had IBS and understands.
I agree with you, 3yearspain! I wouldn't wish this condition on anybody, but sometimes wish doctors would all get it so they would know exactly how it feels. My doctor prescribed Welchol and/or Colestipol for me and it stopped all diarrhea in it's tracks! Colestipol is cheaper over here in the US, so he switched me to that..both work identically and are miracle drugs as far as I'm concerned.
may i ask if this drug worked only on the diahrrea ? i mean did it decrease the frequency of Bowel Movements in a day ? how about other ibs symptoms like excessive gas and bloating ..does this drug has any effect on them ??
Most doctors have never experienced IBS, as others have mentioned. They try to be nice and polite, but don't really get it.
I have had ibs for years I'm in pain most days and I also have been diagnosed with very bad anxiety and depression I used to work as a chef but can't due to the ibs I was having to much time off Drs don't seem to have the answer everyone is different
