Hi have anyone been diagnosed with Visceral Hypersensitivity, and what is the treatment
Visceral Hypersensitivity: Hi have anyone been... - IBS Network
Visceral Hypersensitivity
Yes I have! I have rectal sensitivity which is very unpleasant. I saw my GP about it yesterday and he is sure that's what it is. I've had IBS for 30 years (58 now) and at various times along the way, visceral sensitivity has been mentioned. I don't think there's a way of diagnosing it for sure though, typical of all things IBS it's a process of elimination....
I get the feeling it's a case of put up and shut up. Sorry I can't be more helpful - but you are not alone.
Yeah I have had all test ie scope , mri, etc, I have also got fibromyalgia b12 deficiency, ibs, they are talking about gabenton
I’ve got somewhat similar causes underlying my lifelong IBSC-like “manifestations” including visceral hypersensitivity. I’m probably a lot older than you though. My primaries are systemic lupus & ehlers danlos hypermobility. Am 64
For what it’s worth, what’s helping me now with the visceral hyperreactivity is:
Ultra low fibre diet (no fruit, veg, whole grains and resistant starch) with daily Celevac (the insoluble, nonfermentable bulking agent methylcellulose), which is more or less replacing the fibre i’m hypersensitive to...basically, official research is currently concluding that high fibre diets can bring on hypersensitivity in certain reactive individuals
This regime is very very strange for me, cause have spent my whole life coaxing along my GI tract mouth to a**s via a high fibre Low FODMAP diet. But needs must! And this change is really helping..have been on this for a year now. If your prob is diarrhoea, the same regime can help, you just need to drink less water
You may find that after, say, a few weeks/months on this regime, you could gradually reintroduce fibre via a Low FODMAP approach...maybe discuss this with your GP? In my case, this regime is NHS gastroenterology approved..and i am still attending gastroenterology clinic for monitoring etc
Of course, i’m on a lot of daily prescription meds for my autoimmune conditions inc the corticosteroid prednisolone, but every one of these is actually also helping my GI tract by damping down the inflammatory process aspect of my so-called IBSC-like issues...and my GP+ i think inflammatory process is partly causing my visceral hypersensitivity/hyperreactivity. soon i’ll be in rheumatology clinic finding out what the consultant thinks about this
Wishing you good luck
