Hopeless
How did they test you for dumping syndrome? Sorry to hear about the SIBO, did they give you antibiotics?
I never heard of dumping syndrome, so I looked it up. WebMD says the symptoms are supposed to happen half an hour to 3 hours after food and the ones they list don't sound like what you describe, but what you describe does sound very like what I get after I've eaten high FODMAP foods, only worse. After I get up and use the toilet the pain usually feels somewhat better but then when things were really bad it used to feel like it moved higher up in my gut and it often would take a while for the discomfort to settle down, so I would just get up and give up on getting back to sleep. So far I haven't found a better solution than restricting my diet severely, but I'm still looking - next on my list to try is Atrantil after I saw someone in here mention it. Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you!
Yes are conditions sound similar do u have trouble foods
Yes I have mild pain and gas and fatigue most of the time whatever I eat, so I've wondered about SIBO but haven't been tested for it yet. How did you get it tested for, did the doctor offer or did you have it done privately? But if I eat a normal diet those symptoms all get worse and in addition I get the early morning cramps and needing a dump. It's not exactly acute diarrhoea but I've taken it to be a sign of IBS-D from the foods I react to. I think most of the FODMAPs set it off for me, for instance fruit is a problem, I seem to be able to tolerate a small slice of peach ok but I tried a whole small peach (peeled) the other day and it set me off badly. With a lot of the symptoms never clearing up totally, and the reaction time being slow, it's been hard working out which foods really are a problem and which aren't. Working out that the early-morning urgency was one symptom that did seem to come and go depending what I ate was a big breakthrough for me. Some days I wake up early and don't need a dump but it feels like my bladder's overflowing and then I go sit on the toilet and not a huge amount comes out, usually some wind as well - I've been guessing that just means too much gas built up overnight and couldn't work its way out because I can usually get back to sleep fine afterwards. Not eating or drinking a lot too near bedtime helps me some on that front, but it doesn't make any difference with the early-morning poos, with them it's like there's something bad in there and my body just wants it out. It's sure weird how all this stuff can be fine to eat for years and then hardly anything is ok anymore.
Hi the dr actually mailed me the sibo test ups there instructions even a video you just basically breath in tubes seal up mail back. This really sux is there any safe foods does gluten free work for you?
I usually don't eat any gluten now but I'm not coeliac (had 2 different tests for that). Like I said I get some symptoms whatever I eat, but white rice, courgettes, spinach, egg, cheese, butter and red pepper seem to be about the best things to eat for me for keeping the gas and pain down. I also usually eat sprouted buckwheat flour (in pancakes) regularly - it makes me belch a lot but it seems to have something in that helps my energy levels. I'm really not sure how much of a problem gluten is for me - last time I tried porridge I reacted to it (and oats are gluten-free) but last time I tried eating spelt bread I ate quite a bit and had no reaction (spelt has gluten in it, just a bit less than ordinary flour and a different kind). Also I can sometimes get away with eating things made with ordinary wheat flour. Different people react to different things, but some are more likely to be problems than others. White rice cooked thoroughly is one of the easiest things to digest for most people, but unfortunately a few people can't tolerate it. The book IBS Solutions also said that although people with IBS often get told to increase dietary fibre - to help avoid constipation - in fact eating food less rich in fibre often helps people who have IBS-D, IBS tending to diarrhoea rather than constipation, because it means they make less gas.
Hi lesgobdafydd, I have bought gluten free oats in Aldis and will be eating those (I am just finishing off the open packet of the ordinary oats that I have). I have just found the sentence below on the internet which may help (I wondered why shops sold gluten free oats when they were supposed to be gluten free).
Oats do not naturally contain gluten … but there is a similar protein called avenin found in oats that has the same properties as gluten (it is the prolamine storage protein of oat seeds, that helps protect and nourish the dormant seed
I found the above very interesting.
Very best of luck to you
I know what you mean I have a very limited diet and the more I eat the more it doesn't agree. I had a kinesiologist who could tell me what made me sick what my body wanted etc. but she passed away and I miss her a lot. She understood me better then any doctor wish I could find another one as good as her. I understand what your going through it sounds like me a lot. Wishing I had more advice to share. I drink Kefir which has seemed to help some but I take insulation and body biotics every morning and that helps as well
Hi there, like lesgobdafydd I have never heard of Dumping Syndrome so also looked it up and out of the symptoms they mentioned I get:
Nausea
Bloating
Abdominal pain
Intestinal cramps
Loud stomach noises
Diarrhea which I only get occasionally as I mainly suffer with Constipation
Now I don't get dizziness as such which I see is one of the possible symptoms but I do get lightheaded which I have had twice now over the past 4 to 5 days.
The best I have done is look at my diet, which most people on this forum have done and some with a good degree of success. I cannot eat raw carrots or onions or sweetcorn, all 3 give me excrutiating pain. I also have cut right down on broccoli as that also gives me pain if I eat too much. I am now cutting out lactose and buy lactose free products and will be following the FODMAP diet (I haven't started yet as I have a meal out next week with friends so want to avoid all restaurants whist following the diet strictly). Diet has a lot to answer for.
Very best of luck.
Thank you for the info i mainly suffer from constipation i think i will definitely try the fodmap too i was just researching im picky alot of foods i dont like but oh well health is first good luck
I do as well and I soak Golden Linseeds in around a 3rd of a mug of water - I use a good rounded dessertspoonful of Linseeds and buy organic ones. I soak them for around 1/2 to an hour and drink.
This really works for me.
