I have no idea. I have it too - I have days of constant burping and then I'm fine again. Do you think you swallow air? May sound like a silly question, but I think that can be the cause sometimes.

You might want to try things like probiotics or digestive enzymes to help with digestion. Or HCL supplements in case you have not enough stomach acid. You might have too much acid...I really don't know enough about how it all works to say for sure so its worth experimenting with these things.

There are specific yoga poses to help alleviate gas too so you can google those.

Thank you - I tried some enzymes and thought they might be causing it - who knows?

Have you had a gastroscopy to check if you have an ulcer? The reason for asking is that enzymes aren't recommended if you have. Most products state that on the label or insert.

As for air-swallowing, in his book 'Irritable Bowel Solutions', Prof. John Hunter has a whole section on this and could be worth a read.

Thanks Roz, the gastroscopy just showed a small hiatus hernia, which wasn't supposed to be causing a problem - but I wonder?

Any tips for eating without swallowing air?

Only not rushing. Paying attention especially when eating in company when I tend to wolf down my food in order to get a word in edgewise.

Hi,

It's quite a condescending but as others have said the first thing is to ensure that your don't rush meals and that your not swallowing air when eating/drinking.

If you've monitored yourself over a few meal times probably worth seeing your GP intitially. I suffer from lots of gas which results in burping and it's because I have excess bacteria in the gut and the technical name is SIBO.

Thanks,

J

Are you being treated for your SIBO?

Yes I've been treated, so far with just one course of antibiotics. Resulted in big improvement- I'm still not completely right but am functioning far better and can tolerate more foods now.

There are several antibiotics I could try in the hope of getting even better, however I'm going to take my time as antibiotic contributed to the mess I'm in !
