Who do I contact to get an allergy test, I kno... - IBS Network
Who do I contact to get an allergy test, I know that dairy products cause some of my problems but I'm not sure about others, any ideas
hi , you dont have to be allergic to foods to get a reaction for ibs. eliminating foods seem to be the best way to find what triggers it for you. and even then you could find that now and again it just flares up no matter what you do . i've suffered with ibs-d for 20 yrs and still haven't found a way to settle it for me. goodluck
Probably not much help, but a couple of years ago I saw a 'clinic' in Canterbury offering an allergy test where you put your finger onto a probe or something along those lines. I phoned Allergy UK and they diplomatically said it 'wasn't scientifically proven' - which saved me £70 or whatever it was they wanted. I would recommend looking at the Allergy UK website before committing to anything. I also see BUPA do some but they are very expensive. I am just very wary of the number of people & companies willing to relieve people of their cash for their wonderful services and/or products - me, jaded?
I have tried elimination diets (there is a joke in there somewhere) without much success - ie paying £3 for a loaf of something claiming to be wheat & gluten-free bread, suffering weeks of soya, oat or other 'milk' etc.
Sorry I haven't been much help, but just sharing my experience.
PS - I believe there is a coeliac test where you send of a drop of blood using a kit they supply, howver, I am sure you can get it done via the NHS - I had all kinds of blood tests dome early on in my diagnosis.
Allergy UK have quite a few allergy test kits.
you will probably find a Chinese herbalist near you and they offer a test where they take a small piece of hair and send it for analysis. My son's came back with lack of digestive enzyme and a few intolerances, not actual allergies. but it was a very good overall test that seems to have been accurate.
What makes you think you have an 'allergy'?
Have you tried the FODMAP elimination diet?
Have you spoken to your Dr about malabsorption?
