Hi, my husband had testicular cancer 8 years ago and is in a medical study for the effect of cisplatin on the heart, following chemotherapy , before Christmas he had an echocardiogram which advised that the Contracticility of his heart had reduced and he has been put on medication, I wondered if there was anyone in this community that has been effected in the same way?

Sorry to hear that your husband is having these issues and glad that he is in a trial, being monitored as the issues may have been discovered earlier than if he wasn't in the trial.

Cardiovascular disease in testicular cancer survivors is not uncommon. I am not sure if it has directly been linked to cisplatin or from other causes, much as metabolic disease, that is common in survivors as well.

Unfortunately, I am not sure that a "cause" will be determined. I am assuming that they have involved consultants to investigate things further?

sorry for not replying sooner, he is under the care of a cardiologist, they have said it’s due to the cisplatin, he will be on medication for at least 2 years but most likely permanently and will be monitored closely by themselves and the gp

Glad to hear that he is being seen by a cardiologist and having the issues addressed. Wishing you all the best.
