No dont worry that's completly normal. It's so scarry i know but i promise you it will go away at one point... Don't restrict to healthy food, it's completly okay to eat unhealthy at this point. Like it is the time to eat chocolate, cheese, white bread, hamburger and so one. For me it was chocolate like all the time. And i felt like the urge to have food. Carbs craving, fat craving all of this stuff. My brain was just saying eat eat eat eat eat. But it goes away now
You have to remember your body has been starved and its just demanding the calories it needs to rebuild - most recovery programmes include snacks on top of main meals - so don't panic - you can always ring ABC for more advice as you're without support at the moment and support is so vital during recovery.
I understand your struggle! I felt like I was hungry all the time! What has helped me the most is instead of eating 3 large meals a day, I eat 3 smaller meals with healthy snacks in between. It helps me from overeating. What your are putting into your body is also imperative. Make sure you are not just eating empty calories that have no nutritional benefit. Adding protein also helps makes you feel full for a longer period of time. I also had to figure out that sometimes when I thought I was hungry, I was actually just thirsty. Sometimes they can feel like the same thing. Drinking a big glass of water often helps. I also had to learn to figure out if I was "hungry" because I was bored or if I was eating out of emotion. These are all things to keep in consideration
I know it’s scary but it is absolutely normal after starvation to experience this. When I have come out of starvation, eating is the only thing I want to do. It’s not to early on, and it will get less intense as long as you continue to eat enough food to meet you’re energy needs.
Personally I felt best focusing on healthy foods like you mentioned. Nuts and fruits are excellent choices as they supply you with much needed nutrients and energy to help you heal.
Also don’t feel bad about eating between meals. Standers treatment for eating disorders includes three meals and three snacks.
