If I wanted to join an outpatient support group or therapy, do I have to go to my GP for a referral first? Is there any other way?

I think so. However, if you are at a university, you could access counselling services there. There is an IAPT service which takes self-referrals but they do not deal with EDs. If you have other issues like depression or anxiety, they can deal with that. Hope this helps! xx

GP is usually the first step - but if you are at school/college/university there are usually counsellors available and they could be your first step. BEAT also have a few local groups - but this is very scattered so its luck if they are operating in your area.
