Hello everyone. I wonder if you could help me. I am doing a talk/teaching workshop for some gp's next week on eating disorders. I wanted to know what negative and positive responses you had from your GP throughout your journey ? Just needed some examples so we can make sure the gp's are getting what they need to help people like you and me. I also wondered what do you think your GP could do to support you ? For example, for me I want my gp to listen to me. I also don't want them focusing on my weight. No names will be used, it's just to get an idea of what will help them to help people like us. I will be using my own personal experiences aswell as sharing my story with them. Thank you so much X

Training workshop for GP/s.
Current GP really listens to me - and wants to learn what she can to help. Previous experience not so good - one GP actually said "I'd rather you were underweight than overweight" - also the nurses - who gave dietary advice - could not give me anything as I was under weight - just said eat all the things on the list we tell you not to!
GOod luck with the talk.
Hi, i just want gps to know just because you have a mental illness such as A and B it does not mean you are stupid and not everything thats wrong with you is pychosymatic. You do get physical ailments that need treating unrelated to eating disorder, and it would be nice if GPs were kind you you, not look down on you for having eating disorder.
The GP's I have seen have been lovely to talk to in person and very encouraging, but the time it takes to get anywhere with treatment or to be referred to anyone is incredibly long and time consuming. If it hadn't been for my mum or me constantly phoning and going in person to see what was happening I doubt I would still be here and given up finding help a long time ago. So if the time it takes from admitting your eating disorder to actually getting medical help could be shortened somehow that would be so much more helpful as it would feel like they actually listened more rather than just encouraging you with empty promises
Totally agree with u. I'm really glad u had a good.experience with your gp
Treatment does take far to long and I will raise that for sure on Thursda .
Thank you for sharing you experience with me. I really appreciate i .
Thanks again xx
