What to eat 2 weeks post oesophagectomy op?
I am doing pretty well after the op, and no real problems eating and have introduced wholemeal toast, lots of meals with mince. I can tolerate milk (good job as the dietician told me to drink and eat full fat everything!) and have yoghurt and ice- cream. Can I introduce some chicken and what about red

I had my oesophagectomy in June 2011. 2 days after my op I had a cardiac arrest and was kept in an enforced coma for 3 weeks.
I also was given a tracheotomy. I have improved a lot since the op and went back to work part time in October. I still have discomfort after eating every day and also have palpitations when I get pain or discomfort. I can still only eat tiny amounts, less than half a ready meal for 1, and rarely feel

It's my 6th anniversary today......
This time 6 years ago I was undergoing my
oesophagectomy
. It was a really challenging time as I developed a leak which kept me in intensive care for 40 days and in hospital for 60. Almost seems a long time ago :) I've learnt so much about the new me since then.

Base of stomach formed right angle constriction (not pylorus) and causing aspiration. Any one else experienced this and is there an op ?
After
oesophagectomy
in 2007 I have now started to have bad reflux and aspiration leading to aspiration pneumonia at Christmas.

Low glycemic index food and 'dumping'
With a shorter digestive system (ie after an
oesophagectomy
/ gastrectomy) and a cut vagus nerve (that controls the speed of digestive process), food rushes through the digestion system more rapidly, and will tend to trigger a 'spike' of insulin, because the body wrongly thinks it has to compensate for

Query on CPR ?
Reading this leaflet prompted me to think what would happen if a situation arose whereby we who have had an
oesophagectomy
and the stomach now relocated to the chest cavity had to have CPR administered. Would this be a safe procedure ? Obviously if it was a heart attack they would have to do this.

Longer question follows.
I am now 5 months after my operation (Laparoscopic
oesophagectomy
) . For the first few months I had some nausea but this has got worse over the last month or so. I have tried Domperidone, Cyclizine & Maxolon without any improvement.

Everything fine post Oesophagectomy in 2004 but recently having swallowing problems again with reflux. A Roux-En-Y op. was mentioned.
Had the
Oesophagectomy
done back in 2004 for Achalasia. Then i remained generally problem free. It is only in the last 11 months that my old swallowing and reflux problems are recurring. I have had to have 2 dilatations in recent months.

Does anyone recognise the following symptoms as an after effect of oesophagectomy?
I also have a benign tumour in a salivary gland and I wonder if that might be the cause, rather than the destruction caused by the
oesophagectomy
.

Losing my voice
It was in the small print about risks, but who reads small print? So to recover consciousness, after the esophagectomy, in the Intensive Care Unit with only a tiny whisper instead of my normal voice was a huge shock. I had expected a big fight to regain fitness and was ready for anything except this.

Guide to the Esophagus Urgently Needed
But, as I recall, the words oesophagus or the operation
oesophagectomy
and the post operational implications for such patients are never mentioned in the CORE website and that's what I think is really specifically required.
