Dextran

I have bleed for almost 2 full months over the last 4 months - awaiting on hysterectomy, so I supplemented with dextran iron injections as my gut doesn’t do well on oral supplement.

In my unprofessional opinion, if you feel you must have an infusion then ask for Iron Dextran. Dextrose is a single molecule sugar that theoretically should be able to cross the BBB. Injectafer and iron sucrose, in my humble opinion, don’t stand a chance.

Sooo, iron dextran (dextrose/glucose is a monosaccharide that unlike sucrose will cross the blood brain barrier) infused into RLS patients improved their brain iron levels and their symptoms of RLS, whereas another formulation did not. Wow!

To compare with the conventional FUS technique, in which intravenous (IV) drug injection is employed, FUS was also applied after IV injection of the same amount of dextran in another group of mice. Dextran delivery outcomes were evaluated using fluorescence imaging of brain slices.

These tissues had reduced electrical resistance mainly due to “leakiness” of the paracellular pathways, the “leak” in proportion to the size of dextran particles which could enter the damaged tissue. The significance is that the “leak” is physical not virtual.
