Professor Graham Hughes January Blog 2015
So, Sally was given a prescription and instructions for daily self-injection of heparin, (low molecular weight heparin eg.
dalteparin
10,000 units daily is very safe and, apart from some bruising, is relatively free from side effects).

I think I may be going for a record where DVTs and PEs are concerned!!!!
My last hospital admission showed that the Warfarin had not been working and I was prescribed
Dalteparin
which I inject daily. It was suggested, by the doctors, that I have a valve implanted in my vena cava (I think) but that's on hold for the moment.

I am as low as I have ever been in my life.
After my three weeks in Treliske I was discharged with a supply of
Dalteparin
which I inject each day and it seems to be working. My breathing, although still compromised, is getting better.

Flying with Fragmin
I currently inject fragmin (
dalteparin
) daily and will need to take this to Crete with me. Is there anything I should know in advance about taking the injections on board the flight? Any other advice on flying would be much appreciated as it is something I struggle with.

Graham Hughes' blog February 2013
In this situation, my own practice is a 2-4 week trial of heparin - the safe 'low molecular weight' heparin (in this case 'Fragmin' (
dalteparin
) 10,000 units by injection once a day). The result? Dramatic. Total disappearance of the headaches. Gradual improvement in word-finding.

Be careful if you are self-testing......
I went to my GP and showed him the test strip information and we discussed it and agreed that I now start injecting
Dalteparin
if my INR on my machine drops below 3 (it was 2) and once a month I am doing a venous and home machine test on the same morning to compare the results.
