Vitamin D Supplementation in PCa: A Systematic Review of Randomized Control Trials.

Psychiatrist fired daughter as patient over thyroid! (Or maybe because of her pushy mom regarding thyroid...)
We are in the US. We had a follow up appointment with the psychiatrist last week for my teen daughter. He has made no medication adjustments in over 5 months...just wants to keep things as they are. Her mood has been *more* stable, but she still has some periods of hypomania, and the depression isn't

Vitamin D - Latitude / Calcitriol
They have evolved the ability to convert
calcidiol
to calcitriol. This indicates how important calcitriol is to the tissue & how unreliable the kidney supply is.

Hormonal Vitamin D & PCa Proliferation Rate.
Terms used: a) serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D [25-D ...
calcidiol
]. This is the commonly measured vitamin D reservoir. b) serum 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D [1,25-D ... calcitriol]. Hormonal (active) vitamin D. Reflects kidney conversion from 25-D in response to a drop in circulating calcium.

Vitamin D & the U-shaped / J-shaped PCa risk curve.
Most of the men I know who are serious about vitamin D, test 25-D (
calcidiol
) & modify their intake accordingly.

The SELECT Trial, Selenium & Vitamin D Supplementation.
Plasma vitamin D (25-D aka
calcidiol
) varies by lattitude. A single dose makes no sense. "Among the 15,787 participants who had blood samples that could be analyzed, the mean ... serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D level at baseline was 30.8" ng/mL.

Prompted by the Nalakrats / Tall_Allen Debate.
Calcidiol
(25,D) is the inactive reservoir. Cholecalciferol is the natural supplement & it gets converted to
calcidiol
. There are maybe two studies that claim that PCa cells can use
calcidiol
directly, but the smart money is on calcitriol-like drugs.

A "Novel" CRPC Mechanism.
It has been understood for quite a while that in normal prostate cells, there is an enzyme that acts on
calcidiol
(inactive vitamin D) to form calcitriol (hormonal vitamin D), & that the presence of calcitriol will stimulate the expression of a second enzyme to metabolize & clear calcitriol.

Vitamin D and its Many Effects in People with PD
I have been gathering information on different supplements for several of my friends who have PD. The list has grown to well over 50 supplements now so in order to make it manageable, I am trying to narrow the list down to either 5 or 10 supplements that seem to show the most evidence in the form of

Polyphenols - Inflammation.
Dietary phytochemicals popularly associated with health benefits often have a polyphenolic structure. Polyphenols invariably have an important protective role in plants - e.g. resveratrol, in the skin of red grapes, protects against fungal attack & damage caused by intense sunlight, while sulforaphane

calcitriol & kidney disease
Following my blood test WHY don't GP never talk about kidney disease. Everyone thinks mild kidney disease is nothing to worry about. That might be the case but given my latest virus ass dysfunction I would beg to differ. Anyway following blood test my Kidney GFR was 90 NOW my issue is hows that work

Hyperparathyroidism in PCa.
The kidneys respond to PTH by converting
calcidiol
(25-D) to calcitriol (1,25-D) - i.e. creating hormonal vitamin D. Calcitriol is involved in drawing dietary calcium from the gut, & ultimately, replacing calcium initially taken from bone to restore blood levels.

Vitamin D and Cancer Risk and Mortality
Normal prostatic cells have a need for calcitriol & can produce it from circulating
calcidiol
(25-D). PCa cells inhibit the enzyme that does this, which means that circulating
calcidiol
is of no use in fighting PCa while blood calcium levels are elevated.

Calcitriol (Rocaltrol) + Vit. D3 = TOXICITY!
I’m hoping to find out if anyone here has any knowledge, experience or suggestions with a toxicity issue involving the taking of Calcitriol (Rocaltrol) and Vitamin D3 simultaneously. I posted my first thread here: https://healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk/posts/134682753/armour-t3-always-high-t4-always-low-tsh-extremely-low-docs-wont-help

Foods/Supplements-Vitamins: Phosphorus
As with excess calcium intake, phosphorus can suppress the conversion of vitamin D to its active hormonal form (i.e.
calcidiol
to calcitriol). For this reason, I have long warned about phosphates in soft drinks & deli meats, as well as the phosphorus in a 16 ounce T-bone steak (3-4 oz is OK).
