PREDNISONE TAPERING WITH ACTEMRA
Now I’m at 10 mg prednisone and am just starting
Actemra
. My question is how fast can I taper prednisone with
Actemra
? PS: I feel like the PMR never came back though. I had no PMR symptoms this time around. Would that be possible?

Two weeks since start of flare & still in pain
I'd got down to 7mgs of Pred with the aid of
Actemra
(started 5 months ago). After 2 weeks on 7mgs, pains returned - same pattern & symptoms as first flare. ESR had jumped from 2 to 17 between December and February. Rheumy said to stick with the taper, pains could be something else.

Drug trial for GCA
I am currently on
Actemra
which is an IL-6 inhibitor. Luckily, it seems like there is an increased interest in finding solutions for GCA/PMR. Here is an article I recently came across. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/963473

Stick where I am or increase?
I was expecting inflammation markers to stay down on
Actemra
, or is 4 months on it too soon to expect this?

weight gain after stopping prednisone?
Did 5 monthly
Actemra
infusions but they didn’t make any difference. Went back on prednisone September 2022, 15 mg for a couple of months. Worst symptoms of shoulder pain were mollified and my rheumy had me taper 1mg/week.

Adrenals are working!
Now I just have to keep fingers crossed that
Actemra
is doing its job. Has anyone here tapered off or in the process of tapering off hydrocortisone. I know it’s not the end of GCA but I’m pretty excited. Peggy

Actemra and low WBC(1.9) and low Immunoglobulin levels. Asking for your thoughts.
Called rheumatologist to see if I should cease taking
Actemra
as I had read Actemtra can cause neutropenia. Her nurse called yesterday to say doctor did not think low levels from
Actemra
/ prednisone, and follow up with GP.

Thinking of our conversation on pred level and how to handle stressful moments to keep adrenal drama at bay....
So she tested me and my RA is active so.we.set up for infusions of
Actemra
. I have one so far. I have developed a lot of the side.effects of prednisone. It is hard to look in the mirror, I have gained a lot of weight and am trying low carb but...I also am carrying a lot of fluid.

Reduction of prednisone and night pain
I have been slowly reducing my prednisone while doing
Actemra
. I reduced to 2 1/2 mg three days ago. I am experiencing shoulder and some hip pain while sleeping. Once I get up it is much better. Could this be happening because my body is getting used to the reduction in prednisone?

A flare after 4.5 months on Actemra
Meanwhile got message from Rheumy through nurse to say get a blood test for arthritis and fibromyalgia as this could be causing tiredness and stay on the taper as inflammation can't be from GCA/PMR because I'm on
Actemra
(4.5 months).

Quick question before my operation tomorrow
I have been all over the place re dose since
Actemra
was removed and now have my happy place at 8mg. I absolutely plan to reduce to 7.5 slowly but decided to leave it now until after the op.

Many Thanks
I’ve increased my prednisone from 4 mg to 9mg and gave myself an
Actemra
injection. Pain is greatly reduced! Thrush is still a problem but I’m working on it. Your support has had me dig down deep to find my own strength. Thank you all so much.❤️🌹❤️

GCA and respiratory issues?
I am continuing on
Actemra
. Hopefully the antibiotic will work, if/when need. If not, we're back to the possibility of it being inflammation caused by GCA. We'll see where it leads moving forward.
