Wrong type of dermatologist!

I am seeking treatment for my symptoms , the worse being my eyes, and yesterday I got turned away from the community dermatologist because he said he was the wrong sort of dermatologist. He said I need to go to the Hospital dermatologist. I waited ages for this appointment and now I have to wait again. He may have a point but someone should have read my G.P.s referral letter properly. However what astounded me the most was the complete lack of interest in me and my Sweets Syndrome symptoms. No one wants me and my rare disease.

Hi Faith12, community dermatologists generally manage common, less serious skin complaints. They often can't help SS patients as many need hospital-based services, and sometimes, medications that can only be prescribed by a consultant dermatologist/other hospital-based doctor. Sorry to hear you were sent to the wrong kind of doctor. It must be very frustrating.

That’s disgusting, I had the same thing two weeks ago, I went into a&e and they said there was nothing they could do. Now I’ve been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy. The easy option for them to turn you away because they have no idea what they are doing and scared to get involved with patients who have complex issues. Go to your gp or a dermatology helpline. I’m sure there is one.
