Hi ltgroten, hereditary Sweet's syndrome is incredibly rare.

Taken from the Sweet's syndrome BAD patient information leaflet:

'Is Sweet’s syndrome hereditary?

It is very unusual for Sweet’s syndrome to affect more than one family member. In some of those cases a genetic link has been shown, but it is not normally a hereditary condition'.

I was told by my Dermatologist that it was considered one of the HLA-B27 syndromes. I also suffer from Ankylosing Spondylitis which runs on my fathers side of the family, however to my knowledge no one else in my family has had Sweet's Syndrome.

Hi CrimsonGal,

Genetic marker HLA-B54 has been linked to Sweet’s syndrome in Japanese patients.

There may be a direct association between SS & AS, but as this combination is so rare a lot more research needs to be done.

Sweet's syndrome, it's a confusing thing!
