Do broken bones take longer to heal with someone with lupus ?

In early November I broke my toe in a couple of places and was told it would take about 5-6 weeks to heal. I'm now on week 9 and it's still painful and sticks up a fair bit and is still the same swollen size it was when I did it .. Can Lupus affect the length of time for bone repair ?

I am making an enquiry as I don't know. I'd say most likely yes as things like colds seem to take forever to go away with the body fighting itself. I'll post the answer here :o)

Our nurse Angie said this:

There is no particular reason why bones do not heal quicker in patients with SLE/APS. If you are taking steroids this may affect the healing process. From past experience I do know that broken toes can be painful for weeks. However, I would be concerned by the shape of your broken toe, and the fact that you still have swelling. For this reason, I would advise you to see your GP for their opinion." x

Thank you :). I saw my Rheumatologist on Tuesday and asked him about it and after some investigation we found out that I now have osteoarthritis in my toe and that is why it's not healing very well or as quick as it should. If it's not one thing it's another huh lol x

Oh join the club! I have it in my knees and spine and probably allsorts of other places, I creak and crack like you wouldn't believe!! My healthy lifestyle (running and marching and lifting heavy weights) brought it on - you can't win :o) x
