What tests should be offered for RAS?

My daughter (5) has been diagnosed with RAS. Everything i have read suggests that she should have an ECG to rule out other heart conditions? This was not offered, just told to go back if she starts having seizures without obvious triggers. Bit confused.

I can totally understand your concern. However, some paediatricians are loathe to do unnecessary tests on young children for obvious reasons. If, after taking a full family medical history and being told the events leading to the episode, a consultant is confident in his diagnosis, then he may not request an ECG. However, if you, as mum, need the reassurance of an ECG to rule out any underlying heart condition, then you should take your concerns to your GP who will be able to arrange one for you. If you do not have STARS RAS booklet, then please email info@stars.org.uk.
