Sorry you're finding it hard. It's a constant struggle for me, too! I'm sitting in my kitchen wearing fleece wrist-warmers (really useful around the house) and have gloves to put on when I'm not typing.

I find handwarmers really help - I need an external source of heat as well as warm clothes a lot of the time or I can get really chilled. I use disposable ones that I buy in bulk online (Little Hotties - they last for 7 or 8 hours) and keep them in my coat pockets when I go out so they warm my body up and I can also put my hands in my pockets to keep my fingers warm through my gloves (you can put them in gloves but then the heat can't get to your fingers unless you're wearing mittens). I buy them in bulk and always have a couple of spare packs with me when I go out. Sometimes I need to use them indoors as well.

I do all the usual stuff of wearing a hat, scarf, good-quality gloves etc, and wear long-sleeved thermal t-shirts under my usual t-shirts. Several layers work better than one thick layer. I've also found that a long coat is a good investment. However warm a jacket is, somehow a full-length coat (I got a cheap-ish padded one online) feels as though you're wearing a duvet and really helps!

If all else fails, we have a good electric blanket on the bed, which heats up really quickly and if I'm struggling to warm up I'll switch the blanket on and read, watch telly or work on the laptop (I work from home a lot of the time) in bed for a bit until I've warmed up again.

I agree with Daisy23. I would like to add the benefit of an electric throw I use when I watch TV or read for a while until I warm up; it is quick. Also for a quick warm-up I have a cup of coffee or tea with a little brandy or Tia Maria. It warms you up in no time. Medication helps but not by its self.

Ooh I like the sound of the electric throw, zenabb. That's something to investigate (maybe I'll drop hints for Christmas!)

I agree about the hot drinks - I forgot to mention those, although I don't drink much alcohol so it's just tea or coffee. I find caffeinated drinks dehydrating, and as well as dry skin I struggle with dry eyes and mouth so I go for decaff.

I am a decaf one too.

Hi agree with the other, electric throw is fabulous, lots of layers. I have a knee lenght down coat which is fabulous especially in the cold snaps.

On another note, I dont do coffee or tea, but drink loads of hit ribena during the day whilst at work, have very thin gloves with silver in them, to keep hands warm at work, so that I can still type and write. I even wear wear leggings under work trousers with leece lined boots, of get some wellie warmers for boots they are good too

On days I really acnt get warm, I find a hot water bottle and bed is the bet place for me.

Take care warm up soon.

A really quick, easily available handwarmer is a baked potato.

Put in in the microwave so its done quickly. Then wrap in some foil and hold it or put in your pocket. Stays warm for quite a while and will do the job when nothing else is available.

Eating it will warm you up as well :-)

Join the club my dear. It is really miserable isn't it? I have nothing new to impart. You are doing the same as I am. I too am always in pain and always cold no matter what I do. I do think the medication I take to improve the blood circulation makes some difference though. I am on copious amounts of pain relief medication for arthritis and back trouble. I can't think of anything useful to tell you but please accept my best wishes for a more comfortable future.

Don't give up and don't despair. Try not to get too stressed out, rest well and take good care of yourself.
