Can anyone recommend some warm cosy, not too bulky socks? My feet are always freezing even in May.

I've been searching for these for years, and as my conditions (raynauds & for decades probably secondary to autoimmune disease most likely SLE - currently being sorted out by rheumy) have gotten worse, the perfect sock issue has become more urgent and I've been more willing to invest in socks. So for the cold the best I've come up with are brora's cashmere socks for women (not the cable stitch bed socks). Something about the natural fibre suits me: v light weight and thick without being bulky, not at all rough or irritating, breath well unlike synthetics which make me sweat and don't breath as well, wash great on cold delicate cycle. I'm wearing them now in my fit flop suede boots. And I sleep in them. They only come off when the EM flares (several times a day). Anyway: good luck with your search! Boy do I know what a diff the right socks make!

Thanks for the reply, I have just looked at Brora's web site, they are expensive, but I think I will order a pair.

Last month I bought some silver gloves (available from the RSA online shop (raynauds.org.uk/shop) and have been wearing them this month - they are not bulky and thin enough to wear under thicker gloves in the Winter. They also sell socks, which look to be of a similar material as the gloves, although I haven't actually tried the socks.

The silver socks and gloves available from the RSA are very popular with Raynaud's sufferers. The silver helps to reflect the body's heat back into the skin making them very effective. For further details visit raynauds.org.uk/shop.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the silver socks, but found the tops of them tight, so I cut off the tops and machined over. I will give them another try, I still have them. Will you be bringing some to the meeting in Leeds?

I'm not sure if someone has already said this in the comments, But you can buy the SIlver Socks with loose tops, they are the ones for diabetes suffers but are fantastic as I had to same problem with the other ones being to tight.

Stock items including the silver socks and gloves will be available at the meeting.

Keep the long johns on! Im still wearing 2 pairs, and leg warmers, underneath my trousers. 3 pairs in winter, may get down to one pair in the summer. If its ever hot enough for sandals, my skin burns in the sun! The name says it all!

I thought I was the only person wearing long johns in May! Admittedly only one pair at the moment, but under my winter wool lined trousers. I always wear at least on pair, and just vary the type of trouser. I also keep them on at night, they help to reduce cramps in my legs.

I've used the silver socks from the RSA and I must say they are really good. They are just like wearing ordinary socks but they keep your feet a lot warmer. The only downfall I find is that my feet get really sweaty, although that could say more about my feet than the socks!

I've tried the silver socks and although I will still wear them when I'm going to be going somewhere cold I'm not sure they actually do much to keep your feet warmer but it's worth giving it a go. It may be I'm using them skiing, and cycling in colder weather and I don't suppose you would be doing this so they may be more effective in normal conditions.

Brora has great sales with really good savings on those socks at the end of each season, and the colours are cheerful! Hope you like them. They don't wear hard, but then I'm so lame now i go more easy on them so they last better.

Also, I wear leg warmersyou great with spring/summer leggings when raynauds flares. got some nice ones from wrap and al so from plumo mail Order (again in the sales )

Good luck! Take care

In my original reply somehow I deleted that I have both raynauds & erythromelalgia. As these 2 make for a sort of over/under heating with extra irritable skin, this problem of softness and breathing, warmth and coolness and looseness is complicated. Am always trying to find anyone else who has EM & RP, both often flaring at same time who can give me footwear & handwear tips

Have just received my Brora socks today, went straight out into the garden and my feet stayed lovely and warm, thankyou for recommending them However I have just come back in to an email from Brora about thier winter archive sale- cashmire socks at £15!. I have just ordered 2 more pairs, although I notice that they are only 65% cashmire, unlike my £29 ones which are 85% Thought you might br interested in the sale

Thanks for the tip about the sales. I remembered after I placed my order for the socks, plus excessive postage, that they have a shop in Leeds. As I seem to spend half my life going to Chapel Allerton Hospital in LeedsI could have called into the shop. However I will definitly keep an eye out for the sale.

V glad if these do help! You're right: the trick is to keep up on those Brora sales, and if poss to go to the shops- they've just opened near me in Cambridge. They wash really well in my machine on delicate, maybe cause not pure cashmere I've thought. I've tried other makes and brora's are the best for me. Anyway: good luck & keep well

Something new from Uniqlo is their heattech line. They advertise it for people who spend a lot of time and want to reduce their layers. As a raynaud's sufferer, I've been using it as a base layer whether with socks, gloves, shirts, or pants and they work like a charm...As long as I don't get the item soaked from the outside. I've had a hard time finding clothes that would keep me warm but not make me feel like a dressed up roast. These have fit the bill. If I wear them, I don't suffer from an attack.

My daughter is exactly the same she is really suffering even in summer. I to am having problems finding thin socks to help so will keep my eye on this thread.
