My daughter (6) was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma in August. She was hospitalised a couple of weeks ago with a large amount of fluid on the heart which had to be drained. Has anybody else experienced fluid on the heart?

Hello. I’m so sorry that your young daughter has this disease and now has fluid on the heart. I hope others reply but the reality is that systemic sclerosis is one of the most variable autoimmune diseases and each of us have different presentations. I had less serious autoimmune diseases as a child but outgrew them only to collect a few more serious ones as I got older. However I feel relatively fortunate not to have lung or heart involvement - just severe GI from mouth to tail. I hope your daughter gets really good specialist care and that things improve with treatments. Wishing you and your daughter all the best 😊
