Hi there, I was diagnosed with CREST (Limited cutaneous, progressive systemic sclerosis) about 6 years ago. 3 years ago my hearing became affected in L) ear. Jan this year I developed Meniere's Disease. This is when you lose your balance and become very dizzy along with other symptoms because the inner ear is affected. My ENT says it's all related to the CREST. You may need to see your Rheumy again as your inner ear may be getting affected. All the best!

Hello dojurois,

This is very interesting for me as I also have systemic sclerosis and other numerous auto immune conditions and my hearing has been affected in my left ear. My audiologist also says that it is auto immune related to this condition. I also get dizziness and become unbalanced.

My rheumy has asked my GP to refer me to an ENT specialist as my sinuses are continuously blocked and I keep getting bad migraines........... Oh well, the list goes on .....

There is a Bowen procedure that clears blocked sinuses. In fact, it's that good, it's like unblocking a drain

Interesting - yes I have CREST and I get dizzy with loss of balance. I put it down to medication but recently have had to have hearing aids - not using them at present as they are too fiddly with my bent fingers so waiting for appointment to get a better design. I hadn't really thought about my hearing being the cause of the dizziness but it may well be a contributory factor.

So far it's only in my L) ear but it's likely that both will suffer as it's autoimmune.

Im another. Lots of auto-immune conditions share characteristics or overlap.

Look at the vasculitis forum on Healthunlocked

Like dojurols, I too have crest and menieres disease. My rheumatologist doesn't think the two are connected but I am not altogether convinced. Wishing everyone well....especially those of you with this double whammy!

Hi,

Thought it was me and old age, but yes I suffer from Systemic Scleroderma and suffer lose of balance...... I've fallen several times, and have taken to using a walking stick when I go out because if there's any uneven surfaces I stumble.

Good luck to all fellow sufferers ... This is a horrible illness and very sad that ordinary healthy

people just don't understand.

Yep, I've landed flat on my face on concrete 6 times. Not pleasant. But I was shuffling and my hamstrings bent me almost double. Hence increasing the chance of falling. I've had my hamstrings and psoas sorted and now I stand upright, and not fallen since. I had to learn how to walk again, especially stairs. I do have a leopard print stick for kerbs and stairs. Sorted,

thanks to all of you for replying to my query. I am very, very grateful for the feedback. Wishing you all well (As far as can be expected this is!).

I have Limited Sclero and have had a couple of bouts of Labyrinthitis - an inner ear problem. It can cause vertigo, dizziness and loss of balance as well as feeling sick and I was told many people with auto-immune conditions seem to get it. I have been prescribed Stemetil or Cyclizine in the past that soon sorts it out!

Thanks for your reply. I have had Labyrinthitis too and have had a few ear infections. One extremely bad one which punctured my ear drum. It was excruciating. But aside of this I am frequently dizzy and the loss of sensation in my toes causing loss of balance is getting to be a bit of a nightmare. I will ask the Gp for the drug you are taking. Thanks again. Wishing you well.
