“I have been in the beauty industry since 2017 and first completed Skcin’s MASCED Accreditation in Sept 2019 after delving into specialising in skin treatments.

On 9th June this year I noticed a change in my mums mole on the back of her arm, everything about this particular mole looked alarming. The shape, the difference in colour, the border and just the unusual look of it. I asked her to book a GP appointment, which she reluctantly booked just to ‘shut me up’.

She saw her GP on 21st July and was sent for an emergency referral to a dermatologist on 2nd August. Unknown to her, they were in fact going to remove it there and then on the day to be sent away for Biopsy. Within 2 weeks she received a follow up and on 25th received the dreaded result that it was in fact Melanoma. She is now under the care of Southampton hospital and had her first appointment yesterday with her consultant and surgeon to discuss the next steps of having her lymph nodes removed for further testing. She will be under their care for the next 5 years.

Without the Skcin’s MASCED accreditation I can honestly say I don’t know if I would have pushed for her to be seen so quick.

My mum went from not knowing her mole that had been there her whole life was an issue to being diagnosed with Melanoma.

I just want to say a huge thank you for having a course so easily accessible and for providing so much valuable information. This course has saved my mums life!”

🧡 Many thanks for sharing your compelling story Lauren. We wish your mum all the best!
