The main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma - all named after the type of cells within the epidermis that they form in.

90% of cases are caused by cumulative or intermittent and intense exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) which can result the out-of-control growth of abnormal cells in the epidermis caused by unrepaired DNA damage that triggers mutations. These mutations lead the skin cells to multiply rapidly and form malignant tumors.

1 in 4 males and 1 in 5 females in the UK will develop skin cancer in their lifetime and it is the most common form of cancer worldwide!

1 in 36 males, and1 in 47 females will develop melanoma - the most serious, life-threatening form of the disease.

PREVENTION AND EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES.
